About Volunteer Ottawa


For over 65 years, Volunteer Ottawa has been a leader in helping people make a meaningful difference in our city.

We are a small local non-profit that helps connect people interested in volunteering with the Ottawa-area charities, non-profits, and community groups who need their help.

Our education program helps the public with questions about volunteering and helps local organizations build their capacity with learning, tools, and resources.

We provide critical services to hundreds of organizations - services that are essential to meeting the needs of our diverse, dynamic community.

***: Reporting to the Executive Director, VO's Manager of Learning and Partnerships oversees the design and delivery of VO's education programming and manages projects carried out by Volunteer Ottawa in collaboration with other organizations, including the Board Leadership Project sponsored by the TD Bank Group. This is a flexible position well-suited to someone with other part-time employment in education.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


As a member of the management team

  • Contributes to VO's strategic and operational planning, budgeting, financial management and reporting.
  • Plans and supervises the work of full and/or parttime staff, as well as consultants, contractors and volunteers.
  • Supports the ED's accountability to the Board of Directors.

Education Programming and Delivery

  • Provides strategic leadership and oversees the planning and delivery of all aspects of VO's education programing.
  • Monitors trends and identifies capacity development needs and demand in nonprofit sector.
  • Creates and implements marketing strategies for VO's feeforservice learning opportunities.
  • Recruits and supports volunteer and paid facilitators to ensure the successful delivery of highquality learning opportunities.
  • Designs and coordinates delivery of standard workshops and customized learning opportunities.
  • Manages VO's education software systems and delivery platforms (currently Articulate and Thinkific).

Board Leadership Project (TD Bank Group

  • Develops, maintains and implements a comprehensive project plan and budget to ensure all deliverables are completed on time and the client's expectations are fully met.
  • Liaises with the client's representatives on all aspects of program design and delivery.
  • Develops and implements tools and processes to measure the success of the training and of the program.
  • Identifies opportunities for program participants to put the knowledge and skills they've gained at the service of their communities

Partnership Development

  • Identifies, builds, and maintains partnerships aligned with VO's vision and mission with organizations in all sectors (private, public and nonprofit) to bring benefits to VO and its members, and create revenuegenerating opportunities for VO.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS

Education:


  • Postsecondary degree or combination of relevant education and work experience

Skills and Experience:


  • At least 5 years' work experience in positions relevant to the role
  • Excellent skills in project planning and delivery, demonstrated in a variety of contexts.
  • Experience in the design and delivery of innovative educational programing geared to the needs of adult learners.
  • Business and service delivery experience that includes sales, marketing, hiring, and contracting.
  • Planning and supervising the work of others (staff, contractors and/or volunteers)
  • Ability to use information and data management tools, the MS-Office suite, and educationspecific software.
  • Excellent communication and written skills. Capacity to speak and write in a compelling manner and to tailor messages to various stakeholder groups.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, to build collaborative relationships with colleagues, members, clients, partners, suppliers, and stakeholders.

  • English essential. Bilingual (French) preferred. Capacity in additional languages is valued.
