Objective:

The role is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the Asphalt Quality Control activities within the G.T.A. Paving Group. The incumbent will report to Quality Control Manager.


Main Responsibilities:

The responsibilities are but not limited to, support the project managers, superintendents, and crews about all Asphalt Paving Quality matters and contract requirements;

  • Identify and record any quality problems
  • Review Asphalt mix designs and test results (QC, QA, Referee)
  • Assist with the submission of various asphalt paving documents
  • Monitor and analyze End Result Specification data for all MTO projects;
  • Initiate, and follow up on, actions to prevent the occurrence of nonconformances;
  • Interface with those responsible for inspection and control activities (for materials and relevant suppliers);
  • Participate in Pre-Pave meetings with Clients and Owners, focusing on applicable project specifications and required submissions;
  • Review and schedule QC/QA Asphalt smoothness testing;
  • Develop smoothness lot systems and record exemptions by reviewing IRI results
  • Attend Asphalt Referee Testing
  • Provide periodical analysis of projects (Non-Conformances, deviations, complaints, and lessons learned).
  • Collaborate internally with other Miller divisions to ensure that products and processes conform to client requirements

Qualification & Requirements:


  • Completed Post-Secondary Education working towards C.E.T. or Civil Engineer
  • A minimum of 35 years of Construction QC experience with asphalt materials and/or paving;
  • MTO experience is an asset;
  • Technical letter writing skills is an asset;
  • Proficient in OPSS Asphalt Paving specifications;
  • Have excellent communication skills, oral and written;
  • Have excellent problemsolving skills and proven analytical abilities;
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and a strong commitment to achieving goals and objectives;
  • Focused on details, highly organized, and works effectively with shifting priorities and rapid change;
  • Fosters teamwork and cooperation with a strong ability to work with a highly functional team;
  • Valid 'G' driver's license;
  • Excellent Microsoft Outlook, MS Word, and Excel skills and ability to learn and utilize new software;
  • Ability to work with others as a team;
  • Ability to work long hours per day;
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and evening shifts as the project schedule demands;
