A Career in Aviation and Beyond - Disability Management & Attendance Specialist


Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Disability Management & Attendance Specialist is a key member of the Voyageur Human Resources team.

This role is responsible for case management in relation to employees off work or at risk of being off work for health or injury reasons.

The case manager assesses barriers to a successful and timely return-to-work and engages with stakeholders to implement strategies to address those identified barriers and support return to work or an appropriate alternative plan.


The Job:


  • Administer and support all aspects of the company's attendance management functions.
Non - Occupational Disability Case Management

  • Conduct case assessments, contacting the employee and their direct manager to explain the disability management process and gather information for assessment purposes.
  • Assist with development of policies and processes related to disability case management.
  • Develop and document an understanding of the situation and the factors supporting as well as inhibiting a successful return to work for the employee.
  • Provide any of the following interventions: more indepth assessment, medical management interventions, initiation, and coordination of occupational and/or psychological interventions, utilization of specialized resources or consultations, etc.
  • Determine an appropriate RTW goal with the employee and the employer, provide active support for the returnto work planning process between the employee and their supervisor, and intervene when necessary.
  • Manage the transition to LTD and provide medical and summary case management information to the LTD insurer to ensure a seamless transition.
  • Provide reports to Senior Management monthly or as requested.
  • Other duties as required for successful case management.
WSIB Case Management

  • Respond to first responses within 24 hours of incident reporting, this includes but not limited to ensuring that a safe & suitable offer of modified work is made to the injured worker without incurring lost time, and that relevant documents such as employee statements are requested.
  • Determine the relationship between mechanism of injury, diagnosis, and relationship to entitlement by gathering and analyzing relevant information.
  • Determine whether the injury is occupational/nonoccupational and file all employer's reports from the assigned provinces or overseas location.
  • Converse with sites, gather documentation, and complete electronic submissions to the applicable Compensation Board.
  • Review of monthly accident cost statements, enter claims costs, as well as all other cost entry requirements.
  • Communicate detailed information regarding entitlement decisions and other claim management issues to management and/or executives, both verbally and in writing.
  • Participate in ReturntoWork Planning Meetings.
  • Managing and administering all Voyageur Aviation Worker's Compensation accounts.
  • Other duties as required for successfully manage WSIB cases.

The Next Great Disability Management & Attendance Specialist Has:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Health and Safety, or Health Sciences.
  • Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP).
  • Minimum of 4+ years' working experience specific to Disability Case Management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with aptitude for creating and editing business correspondence.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in disability and WSIB claims management and early and safe return to work programming.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, tight timelines, and multiple priorities in a fastmoving, constantly changing environment.
  • Resourcefulness, proactivity, and good judgment in dealing with issues that may arise.
  • Bilingual (French & English) considered an asset.
