    The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department.

    The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.

    Duties:

    VIU's Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services is seeking instructors to deliver courses within the Community Mental Health Worker certificate online program.

    Plan, prepare and instruct program courses; use creative adult learning strategies in the preparation and delivery of online classroom learning; assessment and evaluation of student learning; recording and submitting grades; providing support to students to ensure their success; working collaboratively with colleagues and industry partners.

    Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success. Successful candidates will participate in activities outside the classroom including student support and department committees.

    Required Qualifications:

    Master's Degree in a relevant health sciences or human services-related field from an appropriately accredited institution.Minimum 5 years of current and relevant experience working in community mental health and/or addictions field, preferably within BC.

    • Demonstrated competence for teaching or training adult learners, using a variety of online and in-person teaching strategies to address different learning styles and a diverse student population.
    • A solid understanding of the scope and role of a Community Mental Health Worker.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the content covered in the course(s) being taught.
    • Ability to work with a high degree of independence while maintaining effective working relationships with relevant VIU department staff and partners.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of relevant technology and software, and a willingness to teach in an online classroom setting and with learning management systems.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Provincial Instructors Diploma
    • Experience instructing in a post-secondary educational institution;
    • Familiarity with online teaching platforms, for example D2L.
