    ABOUT US:

    The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Office develops and implements initiatives aimed at advancing equity, diversity and inclusion within the learning and working environments across the Faculty of Arts & Science. In collaboration with staff and academic administrators in the Office of the Dean, Human Resources offices and various academic units, the EDI Office builds professional development and educational initiatives for all levels of the Arts & Science community. The EDI Office also focusses on policies and practices concerning accessibility, anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion.

    YOUR OPPORTUNITY:

    Under the general direction of the Director, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, the Senior Projects Advisor, EDI is responsible for identifying issues, advising on strategy and communications options, recommending solutions, implementing project plans, and responding to the objectives and priorities of the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, within the Faculty of Arts & Science. Working closely with Director, the Senior Projects Advisor, EDI is responsible for project management and implementation, and communications, to ensure the work and initiatives of the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion can be carried out efficiently and effectively.

    Such project management and implementation includes: (a) working closely with members of Office of EDI and the A&S Dean's Office in implementing projects and initiatives related to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging, (b) undertaking detailed research on a wide variety of issues and topics related to equity, diversity and inclusion, (c) ensuring ongoing maintenance of the highest level of pro-activity and service for the portfolio, (d) providing advice and administrative support on EDI matters and other issues impacting the Faculty, e) acting as an expert resource by providing confidential assistance with complex issues, (f) developing draft communications, such as remarks, presentations, communication materials, and correspondence, and (g) following-up on decisions made by the members of the portfolio and the portfolio's various committees.

    The Senior Project Advisor, EDI will assist with and advance projects, undertake initiatives and daily activities within the Office of EDI that require knowledge of confidential information and coordinate communications. The incumbent works closely with internal stakeholders within the Faculty and the broader university EDI team and partners, both within the University and the external community, and displays an understanding of the University's commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. The role of the Senior Project Advisor, EDI will continue to evolve and the individual must be willing to respond to the given priorities of the day and be willing to work cooperatively in a challenging and dynamic environment.

    The incumbent works in a complex environment that requires a high degree of sensitivity, responsiveness, and a need to maintain absolute confidentiality with personal and employment matters.

    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

    I. EDUCATION:

    Graduate degree in a relevant area of study, preferably with a focus on dispute resolution, human rights, equity, diversity, and inclusion or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Certification or additional training in conflict resolution, equity and inclusion, and/or change management an asset.

    II. EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum four (4) years' experience in a post-secondary setting; experience advancing equity projects within a post-secondary environment or similar complex organization; in-depth experience in and a thorough understanding of complex and intersectional issues related to equity, diversity and inclusion as they relate to the student experience and the workplace.
    • Demonstrated commitment to the principles and issues of equity and human rights, and a track record of success with these issues in a complex and diverse environment.
    • Experience designing and delivering educational programs.
    • Experience in curriculum design and delivery, adult learning principles, group facilitation, assessment and evaluation techniques.
    • Experience in mediation and group facilitation.
    • Extensive experience within a post-secondary environment, knowledge of university policies and procedures, and an understanding of the University's organizational structure, including its governance.
    • A thorough understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
    • Knowledge about media (including social media), protocol, diplomacy and an excellent understanding of the University's mission and intersection with the broader community.

    III. SKILLS

    Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (must be able to set up templates and macros in Word and Excel, set up Excel spreadsheets and graphics, and prepare sophisticated PowerPoint presentations), and scheduling software; Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint an asset; Web design skills such as content management software and WordPress preferred; Familiarity with Acrobat and other Adobe software an asset.

    IV: OTHER:

    Strong research, writing, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills in equity, diversity and inclusion environments. Ability to work under pressure. Familiarity with University governance, higher education sector, and public sector administration. Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, discretion, and tact. Superior organizational skills in planning, project management and task coordination; flexibility and problem solver orientation; and strong leadership capabilities. High degree of political acuity and judgment; ability to deal with senior individuals in a manner which facilitates cooperation and consensus building. Ability to evaluate contemporary equity, diversity, and inclusion concepts, paradigms and issues. Ability to critically analyze the range of EDI paradigms, their strengths and limitations, and to articulate these to a diverse audience. Ability to research and identify best practices of equity, diversity and inclusion. Knowledge of current trends, legislation, and regulations in Human Rights in the context of higher education. Research, analytical skills (including statistical analysis and interpretation).
