THORNHILL:
The Opportunity:
WSP is currently seeking a Specification Writer, Rail & Transit to join our Transportation Systems team located at our Thornhill office.
Reporting to the Manager - Specifications, you will review and prepare bidding and construction related documents for contracts under the Engineering, Construction & Expansion Group.
This position involves extensive contact with the client third party agencies and project staff.
As a member of the Transportation Systems team, you will be given opportunities to use your transferrable skills to define processes, create execution plans, mentor the junior team members, and be the technical lead for multiple projects.
You will be supported by management to develop work plans and professional skills to become a strong leader in the consulting environment.

A day in the life:
- Develop and prepare accurate, technically and commercially complete specifications, and review specifications at construction review and issued for bid stages, for contracts under the Engineering, Construction and Expansion group.
- Provide support to Standards Section for review of Master Specifications and Standard and Directive Drawings.
- Write, edit, and coordinate with Engineering Department (designers) technical specification sections to precisely reflect the contract requirements.
- Review and coordinate comments into the specification sections submitted by the engineering department staff, construction department staff, safety, and other affected departments.
- Review consultant designed specification submissions at established milestones for errors, omissions, or discrepancies for review and action by construction department staff.
- Coordinate specifications with contract drawings to avoid discrepancies, redundancies, errors and omissions.
- Review drawings for information issues, quality control, and constructability.
- Provide guidance to the Specification Assistant (s) and Specification Coordinator.
- Interpret specification requirements for contractors and field staff during construction period and provide technical input.
- Keep abreast of practices and procedures related to specification writing, bidding, and construction contracts.
- Keep up to date on regulatory standards, industry standards, codes, regulations, and construction law.
