Wagner Green YMCA is a part of YMCA Employment and Community Programs which provide a variety of employment and counselling programs to youth and adults throughout the GTA.

Wagner Green YMCA provides a variety of supports to homeless and street-involved youth in the Queen Street West area. Services include employment, housing, substance use, harm reduction, mental health and other related supports. These services and supports are provided directly by the YMCA of Greater Toronto and community partners.


The Drop In is a program that services 16-24 who are experiencing homelessness and street engaged, and in need of services such as meals, laundry, showers, resource computers, telephones hygiene products and clothing.

In addition, the Drop In works with community partners to provide participants with access to a variety of supports.


In this role, you will:


  • DROP IN_
  • Greets and orients new participants to the drop in program.
  • Provides positive interaction, crisis intervention, supportive counselling and practical assistance to participants in consultation with other members of the team.
  • Provides support and referral options to participants regarding employment, housing, and other participant needs as required.
  • Provides supervision of drop in routines.
  • Responds to emergency and crisis situations following appropriate procedures; ensures the safety and security of all staff and participants at all times; provides support to other staff in crisis situations.
  • Participates and/or leads individual supervision, meetings, case conferences and committees as required; circulates through all program areas to support total program delivery.
  • Designs and implements weekly workshops, group activities for participants.
  • Works with community partners to offer a variety of services to youth on site.
  • ADMINISTRATION_
  • Completes documentation regarding participant tracking and log in systems and other items as required by the YMCA regarding program outcomes.
  • Ensures all administrative tasks are completes as assigned.
  • Completes incident reports as required.
  • OTHER_
  • Adheres to all YMCA House protocols and practices as well as Association and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Participates in volunteer supervision, staff meetings and professional development trainings as required.
  • Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner
  • Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
  • Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You bring:


  • Post secondary degree/diploma in social work or related discipline or related experience
  • 2 + years professional experience, preferably working with marginalized youth an asset
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate; knowledge of safety and security procedures related to shelter operations
  • Valid training certificate in defusing hostility and/or crisis prevention required
  • Knowledge of the issues that lead young people to become homeless, and an ability to work with youth in a respectful, nonjudgmental and consistent manner
  • Knowledge and ability to integrate antioppression, critical disability, 2SLGBTQ+ and transpositivity, trauma, harm reduction, and strengthsbased principles into practice
  • Knowledge of transitional, shelter, and other housing systems in Toronto, ability to assist youth transitioning into adulthood through developmentally appropriate support
  • Possesses relevant knowledge of community resources and referral agencies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and nonvisible dimensions of diversity
