Position Summary:

Reporting to the Sr.

Manager, Capital Accounting, this position is responsible for providing enhanced cost management, scheduling, risk management, and estimating support on projects and capital programs in Electricity.

The position will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, and reporting on all aspects of progress and costs on assigned projects.

This may include leading or providing direction to project teams or functions to ensure projects are successful in meeting their objectives.


As a Project Controller, you will be responsible for data gathering, information management, analytical processes and the development of tools used to predict, understand and constructively influence successful project and program outcomes to meet the needs of the organization.

This position will be responsible to perform critical analysis on project progress and must identify potential cost and schedule issues, in addition to developing and analyzing potential solutions and project recovery plans to present to the project manager.


You will be responsible to identify systemic project control issues impacting projects and/or programs and gaps in process and tools and to develop potential solutions, analysis and recommendations, and lead the development and implementation of approved solutions.

This position is expected to proactively manage and maintain relationships with project teams and other key stakeholders, ensuring a visible presence and thorough understanding of business requirements and evolving organizational needs.

  • Responsible for delivering a wide range of project control functions and the development of monitoring and preventative controls, at both project and program levels
  • Contribute to project deliverables through all project phases ensuring strategies are optimized to achieve cost and schedule performance success
  • Evaluate current processes, tools, methodologies and practices and provide recommendations and direct the implementation of enhancements where required to support project controls deliverables
  • Develop and implement project controls tools, templates, and databases to support, measure and audit process and project progress
  • Gather stakeholder input and leverage industry best practices and develop recommendations to introduce and continuously improve cost control functions which target business requirements; develop and implement approved solutions
  • Collaborate with other ATCO teams to ensure Electricity's project controls process and tools are continually optimized and aligned across the business.
  • Lead and coordinate the development of mitigation and cost recovery plans to reduce impact on project budget, project changes and contingency
  • Utilize statistical analysis and predictive analysis to develop and implement strategies targeting improvements focused on Earned Value Management (EVM), Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI) to assess project performance
  • Evaluate current processes, tools, methodologies and practices and provide recommendations and direct the implementation of enhancements where required to support project controls deliverables
  • Develop and implement project controls tools, templates, and databases to support, measure and audit process and project progress
  • Gather stakeholder input and leverage industry best practices and develop recommendations to introduce and continuously improve cost control functions which target business requirements; develop and implement approved solutions
  • Collaborate with other ATCO teams (PMO, Natural Gas, Capital Reporting, Project Accounting etc.) to ensure Electricity's project controls process and tools are continually optimized and aligned across the business
  • Provide framework for and contribute to development of reports and dashboards for monthly project/program reporting such as; weekly/monthly forecasts, progress curves, productivity, quantity curves and other project organizational requirements
  • Support project teams with analyzing project financials including monthly cash flows forecast changes, burn rates, contingency management and variance analysis
  • Lead or provide input to the development of improved data analytics, leveraging historical data, statistical analysis and predictive analysis to improve accuracy and streamline scheduling, estimating and cost management activities
