As the Board's new Manager, Staffing and Human Resource Operations, you will play a vital role in advancing the Board's mission by acting as a trusted advisor and facilitator of change with the Board Trustees, Executive Council, school principals and vice-principals, managers, supervisors, union leaders and association chairs.

About the Role

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee all functions related to the efficient operation and coordination of human resources operations and staffing in accordance with Board policies, collective agreements, and legislative requirements
  • Lead a team of human resource professionals to provide exemplary customer service
  • Ensure the functional integrity and accuracy of the centralized HRIS system and employee web portal for all employee groups
  • Ensure the timely completion and accuracy of employee gross payroll for all employee groups
  • Manage the absence replacement system and coordination of replacement coverage for all employee groups
  • Oversee all internal staffing processes and work closely with the Recruitment and Professional Development Manager to build a highly qualified workforce that reflects the diverse community of Hamilton
  • Maintain data integrity within the HRIS systems and support interface with other organizational systems, conduct system audits and reconcile discrepancies with other functional areas to ensure data accuracy
  • Manage HRIS processes tied to system workflows and work with all internal members to ensure process is mapped, communicated and adhered to
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external members to ensure staffing practices, policies and procedures are appropriate, relevant and effective to support the strategic directions and priorities of the Board
  • Proactively design and implement solutions for a wide range of human resource projects and continually monitor for business process improvements
  • Collaborate with IIT, Payroll and Finance staff on joint initiatives

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in industrial relations, labour relations or human resources management or equivalent related education and directly related experience
  • CHRP/Human Resources Certificate or equivalent related professional designation (an asset)
  • Five years of experience in a senior human resources/staffing role in a complex multiunion environment, preferably in the education sector
  • Previous experience with administration and maintenance of a human resources information system (HRIS) system
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of employment legislation and emergent issues in public education
  • Strong research, analytical, problemsolving, strategic thinking and planning skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Superior time management, organizational, and project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities
  • Successful track record of developing successful collaborations and partnerships
  • Demonstrated belief in customer service excellence
