Under the direction of the Manager, Legislative Services/Deputy Town Clerk, the Claims & Risk Analyst is responsible for identifying the risks that the Town may be exposed to through review, analysis and investigation and to develop and administer programs to reduce or eliminate those risks through risk control and insurance claim management.

In addition, this position maintains related policies, records and documentation, and makes recommendations on risk management strategies to various departments within the Town.

Job Requirements

  • Formal postsecondary education in Business Administration or a related discipline and completion of the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) program of the Insurance Institute of Canada combined with claims administration experience or the combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in a municipal environment and/or a broad knowledge of a variety of municipal services.
  • Thorough understanding of insurance policies, documentation and practices, insurance case law and the Municipal Act. Knowledge of the civil litigation process and procedures.
  • Excellent administrative, analytical, investigative, organizational, time management, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in public relations to deal with the public, politicians and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when dealing with confidential and highly sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and demonstrated comfort level with the Internet.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills including report writing; attention to detail and accuracy is necessary.
  • Experience in research methodologies, information gathering and the analysis of data.
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Experience in developing policies, procedures and strategies and designing and delivering training and common strategies on risk management practices to all levels of staff.
  • Valid Class G Driver's license in good standing with access to a personal reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
  • Willing to work scheduled or unscheduled overtime as required.
