Responsibilities:


  • To operate a Fishing Vessel
  • Record the vessel's progress, weather and sea conditions in the ship's log daily.
  • Read & understand Charts, Tides & Currents.
  • Enforce and adhere to regulations in Canadian waters
  • Direct and oversee the loading and unloading of cargo/freight
  • Control, steer and navigate a vessel in various waterways
  • Command and operate ships or vessels to transport cargo/freight
  • Determine geographical position using navigational instruments, maps and charts.
  • Safely operate the vessel in all weather conditions as well as holding the vessel in position for long periods of time.
  • Assist with vessel loading, layout and organization.
  • Command vessel safely and ensure inspections and maintenance are performed and documented regularly.
  • Effectively communicate with the crew on board.
  • Keep up to date documentation for the vessel.
  • Keep up to date on vessel & vesselrelated equipment maintenance as well as inform and seek approval from the supervisor/manager for any maintenance to be done.
  • Assisting with the general cleanup and organization of the site & vessel.
  • Keep vessel tidy & clean.
  • Maintain clear and concise communication with management and clients.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager or Marine Operations Manager.

Qualifications:


  • 2+ Years experience as a Master of Fishing Vessel (150 GT &/Or FM3).
  • Experience managing vessels and leading crews to ensure personal safety, environmental protection and risk mitigation are maintained.
  • Adhere to Regulations and Company Standards.
  • Intimately familiar with the west coast of British Columbia, including tides and currents.
  • Willing and able to work outside, as part of the team, in inclement weather captaining a boat in the open ocean in allweather scenarios for 23 weeks at a time.
  • Experience with the use of hoists and cranes is an asset.
  • Physically fit for work at sea in calm and rough waters.
  • Proven ability to make decisions to maintain efficiency while ensuring safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Creative problem solving skills and ability to think outside the box while maintaining safe working conditions at all times.
  • Strong communications skills and excellent intercultural/environmental sensitivity.
  • Willing to listen to ideas, keep a calm presence and positive and to think on the spot.
  • Highly organized team player with the ability to schedule crews.
  • Up to date Marine certifications/qualifications: ROC, MedA3, Marine First Aid, etc.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule with the ability to work remotely and on an oncall schedule.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean abstract and reliable transportation.
  • Must be double vaccinated and provide a valid COVID19 vaccination record.

Who will you be working with?


You will be collaborating with our various departments including Cable Lay, Technical Trades, Operations, and Construction staff, but reporting directly to our Marine Operations Manager.

Effective team collaboration and communication skills are essential.

The team's expertise and project tasks are diverse, presenting an opportunity for collaboration among team members to mentor and learn from each other.


When will you start? This position is offering casual/on-call work leading to full time opportunities. We anticipate the summer to be mainly full time employment.
