Assistant Manager, Farm Operations

Permanent, Full Time


About the Job:


We are seeking an Assistant Manager to oversee our Farm Operations near Georgetown, Ontario, that is passionate about horticulture, leading people and farm management in a fast-paced team environment.

You will be responsible for the planning and execution of farm activities related to staffing and production at our Glen Williams location while ensuring our high standards in health and safety are maintained.


Your Accountabilities:


  • Overseeing and managing the operations of the Container Farm to ensure the smooth functioning of the farm and the achievement of production targets
  • Supervise the operations teams, including production planning, potting, maintenance, and HR functions. Learn by doing, including handson work with plants
  • Hiring, developing and coaching your team. Guiding and supporting the Operations Assistant with all seasonal hiring and offshore worker programs
  • Work with the Production Supervisor to ensure the plan is executed, including scheduling, coaching, and monitoring daily safety, quality, and attainment goals
  • Managing the production of seasonal custom products and growing the program to meet market demand
  • Assist with budget process and provide cost analysis, labour forecasts and other reports on a weekly basis
  • Working with Management to challenge our existing processes, and then find, test, and implement new ways to reduce scrap and improve efficiency
  • Contribute to a safe work environment for all employees through active observations, hazard reporting, coaching on relevant health and safety best practices, and leading by example while ensuring all employees are adhering to company policies and guideline
  • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong and compassionate leader that drives results, motivates employees, and ensures accountability while aiming to exceed expectations
  • Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing or horticultural/agricultural environment
  • High standard of professionalism with excellent communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, handling multiple demands, setting priorities, making decisions, and exercising best judgment
  • Resourceful and selfdirected with the ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve goals
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize multiple tasks and situations with effective time management skills
  • Continuous improvement mindset seeks ways to optimize processes, eliminate waste and streamline operations. Experience in Lean, Six Sigma is an asset
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • You are punctual and dependable, and highly value honesty, integrity, and authenticity
  • Valid class G Ontario driver's license
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including some evening, weekends, and holidays as seasonal peaks require
  • This job requires extended periods of walking and standing, as well as the ability to lift 50lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
