This is a field position, working out of the Sherwood Park district office with frequent travel throughout Plains assets in Central Alberta

.

Responsibilities:


  • Conduct scheduled cathodic protection (CP) surveys of pipelines, tanks, and facilities in compliance with Plains Corrosion Programs
  • Surveying and troubleshooting of rectifiers, anodes, foreign bonds, casing test points and other points of interest to confirm functionality and protection levels
  • Perform field maintenance and remediation of CP deficiencies as required, i.e. test station installation/repairs, cadwelds and cable splicing/repair, rectifier/RMU adjustments and repairs
  • Perform rectifier/groundbed installations, monitor and maintain existing facilities
  • Inspect pipe surfaces using various techniques, perform interference testing
  • Troubleshoot, correct, and mitigate interference issues with other pipeline companies
  • Computerize all data, maintain records and provide reports to the Corrosion Supervisor
  • Administer chemical injection programs and read internal corrosion monitoring devices at prescribed frequencies
  • Respond to callouts for emergency response and/or work associated with Plains field operations
  • Model and promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility
  • Any other pipeline related duties that may be assigned

Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with construction, testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting of cathodic protection systems and/or pipeline maintenance programs
  • Completion of AMPP/NACE CP Level 1 or Level 2 certification is desired
  • Journeyman electrician certification would be considered an asset
  • Proficiency in the use of multimeters and related electrical test equipment, maintenance and use of halfcells, UT equipment, cadweld processes, GPS, data loggers, pipe locators, current interrupters, and related testing/diagnostic and pipe protection equipment and processes
  • Strong computer skills, familiarity with database systems such as PCS would be preferred
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems such as Maximo, SAP
  • Ability to interpret equipment manuals, service notices, technical documents and data
  • Possess excellent communication ability, both written and verbal
  • Must be organized and proficient in record keeping
  • Capable of problem solving and able to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects concurrently
  • Reliable, responsible, and safetyconscious
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean abstract
  • Ability to travel for extended periods (up to 25%) throughout assigned district to perform field work as required
  • Cleared criminal history (background) check and satisfactory reference checks
  • Compliance with the company's Drug & Alcohol Policy
  • Ability to complete safety training and other required training and certifications
  • Occasionally lifts or carries moderately heavy equipment or parts and positions them during maintenance activities. May have to work in confined spaces, working and stooping, kneeling, bending, and walking distances in all types of terrain
  • Frequently works in open environments with extremes of heat and cold, often in proximity to high voltage and/or chemicals, which requires safety accommodations such as protective clothing and equipment
  • Expectation that employee resides within 100km of the assigned field office (Sherwood Park, AB)
