About Us

Canatom Power Group is the joint venture between SNC-Lavalin and Aecon which has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to carry out the Darlington Retube and Feeder Replacement (RFR) project.

The project involves refurbishment of all four reactors at the Darlington Generating Station. Canatom is looking for a Holder of Record.


Key Responsibilities

  • On a shift basis, administer and manage the Work Protection and Lock Out Tag Out (WP/LOTO) programs with strict procedural use and adherence including a high standard of record keeping.
  • Provide input and support to the Construction, Operations and Commissioning teams, in WP/LOTO mechanical and electrical isolations, WP/LOTO test procedures and work authorizations.
  • Coordinate walkdowns for Permitry boundary review with Engineering/Trades Supervisors and/or Work crews.
  • Develop WP/LOTO permits, write LOTO tags, markup engineering drawings, deenergize equipment, depressurize systems and implement proper LOTO devices to ensure work can be performed safely.
  • Responsible to ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner in compliance with safety, quality and human performance policies.
  • Interface and maintain relationships with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc
  • Ensure the work is carried out in accordance with CanAtom Programs and project quality guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to CanAtom and Client policies and project procedures as required.
  • Maintain appropriate field documentation including Worker Initial Lists/Form, safety records, daily progress reports, training records, manpower reports, owner support requests, WP/LOTO governance documents, etc.
  • Maintain established Safe Work Area ownership / control and ensure signage and periodic walkdowns are completed as required
  • Provide feedback to WP Lead and/or WP Coordinator regarding WP/LOTO effectiveness and continuous improvement opportunities as it relates to the Work Protection program.
  • Develop and Participate in Work Protection training team meetings and WP/LOTO trainingrelated projects.
  • Promote a nuclear safety culture that supports continuous improvement in the WP/LOTO management system through active communication, participation and development of skills.
  • Support project specific Work Protection management plans and procedures including inspections, audits, observation and coaching, Worker Trades Committee and JHSC
  • Support Human Performance program activities and act as an advocate for Human Performance
  • Identify and refer issues regarding jurisdictional Occupational Health & Safety Acts, Regulations and applicable standards as related to WP/LOTO Programs to the WP Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as directed in support of project activities.
  • Work hours as required, including nightshift, overtime, weekends and holidays as necessary to support the project
  • Other duties as required.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Education to include a technical college diploma or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • 4 years of previous Work Protection/LOTO experience in a Nuclear power generation or chemical manufacturing plant, 2 of which have been in Commissioning, Maintenance and/or Operations.
  • Must be able to interact professionally with Client, Contract and other Project Vendor personnel.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements
  • Good communication, organizational and supervisory skills are essential
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Basic presentation skills
  • Must be proficient in reading and understanding engineering drawings.
  • Must be able to identify appropriate lockout points using electrical single line and threeline diagrams, mechanical & plumbing drawings and power distribution panel drawings.
  • Identify lockout points using P&ID flowsheets and/or drawings.
  • Identify lockout / tagout procedures for project equipment and systems
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and positively influence behaviour
  • Experience and Work Protection Qualifications in the Nuclear industry would be considered an asset.
