THE CHALLENGE
To assist the Security Supervisor & Security Dispatch with daily or other routine tasks. The Assistant Supervisor will be required provide guidance and support to Security Guards at the Toronto Eaton Centre. This position will report to the Security Supervisor.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Assist the on duty Security Supervisor with the supervision security staff. This may include training of new Security Guards on policies, rules and practices / procedures.
  • Ensure daily performance objectives are achieved and provide effective support to the Security and Life Safety Supervisors utilizing effective delegation skills.
  • Maintain an exceptional customer service environment with a focus on the customer and client experience.
  • Develop and maintain a positive professional relationship with tenants, customers, police and other agencies.
  • Assist customers and tenants with customer service & security related initiatives in a professional & approachable manner.
  • Liaise with tenants to ensure that all Security & Life Safety related matters are handled promptly and effectively with complete followup and documentation as needed.
  • Assist with the daily briefing of Security Guards as they report for shift duty.
  • Perform Shift Supervisor functions in the absence of the Security Supervisor.
  • Assist Security Supervisor with personal and confidential administrative functions such as time and attendance, approving & reviewing security incident reports and statistical analysis of property trends.
  • Participate in the hiring and interview process of new staff.
  • Evaluate performance of existing employees.
  • Mediate Staff conflicts.
  • Support the Supervisor with investigations as required.
  • Assist with the implementation of strategic individual and team objectives within the department and ensure these are achieved to a high standard.
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of operational procedures, processes and standards to facilitate ongoing and effective security and life safety management practices.
  • Provide training and reinforcement of departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assist and provide support within Security Dispatch, in the event of a Dispatch staffing shortage.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with Security Guards, tenants and others to ensure safety and security practices are followed.
  • Monitor and report on activity that could constitute threats or hazards to CF property or the health and safety of tenants, customers and employees.
  • Liaise with law enforcement and emergency services personnel in dealing with routine and emergency situations.
  • Complete tabletop and tactical exercises with Security & Operations Staff which will be designed to reinforce and support existing SOP's.
  • Assist with emergency incidents.
  • Render first aid or CPR if required.
Carry out arrests (if necessary), while following proper procedures and ensuring individual's rights are protected.

  • Maintain logs and provide reports for the Security Supervisors & Security Managers.
  • Ensure monitoring and control of "no parking" and "no smoking" areas.
  • Ensure effective use of key or access control systems.
  • Execute other assigned duties.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Detail oriented, able to organize and prioritize daily activities, as well as shortterm and longterm planning
  • Strong leadership, and excellent with problem solving and conflict resolution

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Law Enforcement Degree, Diploma or Certificate in security will be an asset.
  • Minimum two (2) years' security and supervisory experience in a mall or retail environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR.
  • Current and valid Security License.
  • CPO (Certified Protection Officer), or other Security related designations will be an asset.
  • Ability to identify & inspect safety, fire or security hazards/risks on CF property.
  • Have strong problem solving abilities by identifying options and subsequent courses of action to solve problems.
  • Knowledge of and skills in crowd control in emergency situations and at special events.
