Take the lead in this exciting role as a Program Manager at one of our many attractions such as the Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton Valley Zoo, John Walter Museum or John Janzen Nature Centre.

Your expertise in organization and planning will allow you to research, plan, coordinate and implement supervision and evaluation strategies in an effort to enhance services for Public Education at one of Edmonton's most popular venues.

We are recruiting for up to two Program Manager positions. One permanent postion as the Program Manager of Muttart Conservatory, John Walter Museum and John Janzen Nature Centre.

The second is a temporary positions for up to 18 months as the Program Manager of the Edmonton Valley Zoo.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Strategically coordinate the delivery of programs and services by providing leadership and support to directors, supervisors and operational staff on process, budget allocation and monitoring of service delivery of admission, membership, services and programs for the Edmonton Valley Zoo, Muttart Conservatory, John Janzen Nature Centre and John Walter Museum. Oversight of the Branch's Volunteer Services program also falls into this area and requires the management and oversight of nearly 1,200 volunteers
  • Builds a cohesive team through innovative and exciting recruitment plans which include the screening, hiring, scheduling, developing, directing, coaching, disciplining and evaluating of team members, staff and volunteers
  • Contributes to building a healthy, respectful and productive workplace culture
  • Provides opportunities for staff and volunteer personal development through seminars, webinars, activities & projects
  • Sets work plans and goals for the subunit to ensure the successful animation of a facility
  • Responsible for the overall performance of initiatives set by council, the branch, the section and the unit
  • Researches plans and coordinates the implementation, supervision and evaluation of admission, visitor and facility experiences, spontaneous use, ondemand programs and registered programs
  • Plans and implements needs assessment processes, interprets the results and prepares strategies to provide enhanced service in the areas of attraction and arts experiences and volunteer development
  • Develops a budget and manages variances and financial planning for the year. This includes the creation of business plans for new or existing events and programs in which there is a return on investment
  • Secures resources such as project grants, employment grants or sponsorships for initiatives which support the vision and mission of the section and unit as well as the branch and the City
  • Develops and implements action plans to meet citizen, event organizers, and facility user expectations and objectives, department mandates and branch outcomes
  • Reviews and determines the effectiveness of registration processes and marketing plans on revenue, attendance and awareness
  • Ensures compliance with legislation relating to labour, safety, purchasing and privacy
  • Develops and implement appropriate problemsolving processes that result in action plans to meet objectives, department mandates and Branch outcomes
  • Develops and implement marketing strategies and processes with the support of marketing and communication partners
  • Write reports and make recommendations on policies as directed by the supervisor
  • Establish and maintain an inventory of all materials, equipment and resources within the Unit
  • Research grant and sponsorship sources and opportunities to assist in the costs of program and service delivery, as well as managing grant projects in an effective and timely manner
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration, Business, Education, History, Fine Arts or other related disciplines
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of community recreation with a demonstrated competency in program development, organization development and provision of information
  • Proven ability to recruit, train and provide leadership and supervision to a large diverse team is required
  • Sound knowledge of processes for conducting needs assessments and developing, implementing and evaluating programs
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues, analyze information and approach problem solving with a creative and consultative approach
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to deal with people and resolve conflict in a calm, professional manner
  • Demonstrated skills in developing, monitoring and implementing budgets
  • Excellent coordination with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software including Google Suite(Google Sheets, Docs, Gmail)
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Informat
