High profile leadership role for an experienced facilitator with outstanding collaborative skills


The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is an independent civilian-led agency with jurisdiction to investigate police-related incidents of death or serious harm to determine whether or not an officer may have committed an offence.

The Police Act creates the IIO and defines its powers. The IIO reports to the Attorney General; however, investigations and decisions are operationally independent of the government.

The IIO has jurisdiction over all provincial policing agencies, including municipal police agencies, the RCMP, the Metro Vancouver Transit Police, and the Stl'atl'imx Tribal Police Service.

The IIO's jurisdiction also extends to officers appointed as special provincial constables, municipal constables, and includes on
- and off-duty officers.


Reporting to the Director, Investigation Support Services this position will support the service delivery requirements of the IIO Investigations teams.

The focus of this position will be to provide services to Affected Persons (AP), their families and communities, facilitate investigative issues with the AP and their families and ensure awareness of AP related services within the investigation.


This position will require the incumbent to be appointed with Peace Officer designation; will require travel throughout BC on a regular basis and participation in a scheduled on-call rotation.


Job Requirements:


  • Postsecondary degree in a field related to investigative social work, health or social sciences, criminology, law, investigation, and enforcement
    plus 2 years experience, or equivalent.
  • Diploma in a field related to investigative social work, health or social sciences, criminology, law, investigation, and enforcement
    plus 4 years experience, or equivalent. Two (2) years demonstrated experience in providing direct client service in a support role to vulnerable populations, and those dealing with crisis, trauma and loss.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Preference may be given to applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit)

Willingness Statements:

  • Must hold a valid BC Driver's licence or eligible to obtain a valid BC Driver's licence.
  • Must be able to respond 24/7 provincewide in a scheduled rotation.

About this Position:


Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.

An eligibility list may be established for future temporary and permanent vacancies
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
This position is excluded from union membership.
