The Role


The
Buyer (Category) Manager will work with Canco staff across departments to forecast the needs of the business, partnering to create a cohesive assortment strategy and building out processes that will impact our customers, and support in-store procedures.

These departments include finance, design, legal, store operations, and product management.


Key elements of this position include enhancing the overall customer experience, driving selection, negotiating with vendors, and creating a category pricing structure.

You will have P&L ownership for your assigned categories and be responsible for driving revenue and profitability.


The
Buyer (Category) Manager should be analytically minded and possess excellent negotiating skills to secure the best prices, according to Canco's budget.

Knowledge of sales and marketing principles is advantageous to the role.

  • Act as the 'business owner' for their category.
  • Be responsible for translating business and customer insights to establish a successful strategic direction for the category.
  • Initiate, structure, and negotiate partnerships with both new and existing vendors. Create business plans for new opportunities and develop and execute project plans for new launches and longterm operations.
  • Research, select, and purchase quality products and materials.
  • Coordinate crossfunctional teams and communicate with internal and external parties, while meeting tight deadlines.
  • This role will require a willingness to dive into the details, solve new problems as they arise, be comfortable with ambiguity, and look around corners while always keeping our customers at the forefront.
  • Ability to travel to various Canco Petroleum locations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Direct Buyer/Category experience (including brand, category, product management, buying, finance, and/or marketing)
  • Strong financial acumen with business analysis
  • Critical thinking and negotiating skills
  • Ability to think and act both strategically and tactically
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Suite (including Excel)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to influence others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in brand/category/product management, buying, finance, and/or marketing
  • Strong financial acumen with business analysis
  • Ability to think and act both strategically and tactically
  • Experience in Liquor/Grocery/Mass Convenience and/or Drug channels
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and delivering results
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel

Salary:
$60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
