Fortis Mining Engineering & Manufacturing is currently recruiting for the position of a
Fabrication Shop Planner/Scheduler. Fortis is a strong leader in Canadian mining, and we pride ourselves on the work we do, and the people and communities we work with.

The Fabrication Shop Planner Scheduler is the primary point-person responsible for planning and scheduling fabrication projects in accordance with specifications and customer requirements.

To achieve these important goals, the Planner/Scheduler will define project execution requirements in dialog with team supervisors, engineering, quality, and procurement.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct cost analyses of the planned projects
  • Conduct risk assessments on the execution of the work with shop team members and include risk mitigating steps into manufacturing plans
  • Evaluate project activities throughout lifecycle, including the allocation of adequate resources, scheduling, documentation, budget, and other factors necessary for success
  • Plan project timelines, milestones, deliverables, and microdeliverables using the appropriate software tools and/or methods
  • Communicate with other divisions to ensure all job requirements are being met
  • Produce regular reports on the progress and quality of projects (e.g., schedule compliance, planning progress, workbook status, cost performance on planned vs actual)
  • Track project costs and compare to budget
  • Lead manufacturing project postmortems to identify areas for improvement; make recommendations and incorporate actions into future packages
  • Coordination of thirdparty contractors required to successfully complete projects (e.g., third party NDT, manufactured parts, coatings, or specialty processes)
  • Purchase items required to complete projects in a timely fashion and source out comparable components in the event of supply issues
  • Final Inspection and sign off of Fabrication Shop projects prior to shipping and preparation of client turnover package
  • Review project material specification, data sheets, and scope of work documents
  • Develop Inspection Test Plan (ITPs) as they relate to fabrication of projects
  • Schedule or coordinate fabrication equipment repairs/maintenance and calibration as required
  • Monitor and oversee the purchasing of materials and develop min/max quantities for stock of shop consumables
  • Review shop drawings and work with the Engineering Department to identify potential problems and issue change orders
  • Support estimator using historical data and experience

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Must possess customer focus and service driven approach to tasks
  • Strong timemanagement and organizational skills; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Results focused; able to problem solve and adapt quickly
  • Possess high level of accountability, dependability, ethics, and integrity
  • Solid understanding of supply chain/purchasing process
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing best practices
  • 3 to 5 years of direct work experience in a manufacturing planning role
  • Able to work in an integrated manufacturing environment
  • Drawing and blueprint interpretation skills required
  • Able to effectively communicate with vendors, technical and professional staff, and teams on the shop floor
  • Global Shop experience considered an asset
