  • The Therapeutic Recreation Department is seeking contract faculty for the Winter and Summer 2023 academic terms to teach and supervise THRT 2333, THRT 2444, and THRT Therapeutic Recreation Practicum.
  • Location for work will be online and in the community.

The Role

  • The Therapeutic Recreation Department currently offers a 2year online Therapeutic Recreation Diploma, an oncampus 2year Therapeutic Recreation Diploma and a 4year Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation degree that prepares students for eligibility to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
  • The Therapeutic Recreation Department is a unique program, recognized as an innovative program leader with a strong academic and research based curriculum in addition to numerous opportunities for experiential learning throughout both the Diploma and Bachelor Degree programs. Graduates from both the Diploma and Degree programs are career ready or, if desired, some Degree graduates choose to continue into a variety of Graduate level programs.
    Responsibilities
  • We are seeking individuals with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree TR (or related field) and at least three years' workrelated experience. Faculty supervisors are needed in various geographical regions around British Columbia including the North, Interior, and Vancouver Island health regions. Faculty supervisors are responsible for supervising diploma and degree students on practicum. Travel to sites may be required along with the ability to coach, mentor, and supervise students virtually. The ability to use online platforms as a method of interaction is needed.
    To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
  • A master's degree (preferred); however, a bachelor's degree will be accepted. At minimum one credential must be in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Recreation Management, or Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Work experience in a clinical therapeutic recreation setting, longterm care homes, or a community recreation environment.
  • Knowledge of cultural diversity and ability to work with people of varying ages and abilities.
  • Knowledge and experience in the theories, models, and implementation strategies of therapeutic recreation program planning in clinical and community settings.
  • A strong commitment to innovative approaches to teaching and mentoring students.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work cooperatively in a team setting.
  • Excellent conflict management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with site supervisors and students.
  • Knowledge of virtual learning platforms and the ability to interact with students in a hybrid inperson/online format.
