Job Summary:

The Assistant Underwriter, Canada will work with the Casualty team in Toronto and focus on business across all of Canada and English-speaking Caribbean.

This individual will be exposed to AXIS underwriting philosophy and guidelines, using rating tools and risk aggregation methodology. He/she will also conduct regular broker visits and build relationships with brokers in the Canadian market.

There will be opportunities for international collaboration with our London office to broaden market and product knowledge in the region.

This role will be a progressive step towards building casualty knowledge and a career as a Treaty Underwriter.

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze and use underwriting tools to support underwriters preunderwriting and rating support
Booking of underwriting treaties including administrative management, liaising with the Operations team to ensure treaties are completed correctly
Support underwriting team to understand the portfolio structure including assisting with terms, pricing and endorsements
Review and support team on new and renewal business based upon company underwriting guidelines, competition and geographic focus
Support the management of the portfolio with regards to new lines, renewals, and cross marketing of product lines within the department
Work with colleagues in other countries to help bring market leading product and expertise in order to grow the Company's presence in Canada
Work with the team to support required marketing through broker visits on a regular basis. This involves soliciting new accounts, gathering market intelligence, and providing up to date department information relating to products and services.
Establish broker relationships to develop business objectives
Participate in underwriting audits and monitoring of account performance
Internal and external training to develop product and underwriting knowledge
Interact with other teams within ie Claims, Finance, Compliance, Actuarial Services and other underwriting teams on matters affecting or related to accounts within the portfolio
Participate in projects or perform other related work as required

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor's degree
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the (re)insurance sector with an insurance company or brokerage
Good working knowledge in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel
Working towards CIP or FCIP is desirable
