Job Summary:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Transit Infrastructure Planning, this position will manage facility redevelopment, expansion, and rehabilitation projects, drive capital budget requests, and develop and implement the associated capital renewal plan/strategy with a focus on asset management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage MiWay facility lifecycle renewal and expansion projects in coordination with the Facilities Property Management team;
- Implement and maintain MiWay's Infrastructure Asset Management Plan for facilities and terminals and identify processes to ensure optimization of MiWay's assets, including the management of data and associated analysis;
- Develop and maintain detailed inventory and condition assessment processes for MiWay's infrastructure that include condition assessments, careful evaluation of work performed and following through with approved recommendations;
- Coordinate construction/maintenance of facility projects with internal departments,contractors, supervisors, inspectors as required;
- Lead and manage the design review and construction coordination for MiWay capital projects;
- Represent MiWay during capital facility detailed design and construction projects;
- Contribute to the development of MiWay's capital program based on growth requirements and asset efficiencies;
- Assist in the preparation of departmental reports;
- Respond to customer complaints and enquiries relating to transit infrastructure;
- Proactively attend to all Health & Safety issues;
- Liaise with staff in Works and Operations, Facilities and Maintenance and various City Departments to ensure collaborative and effective use of City resources;
- Respond to transit infrastructure related incidents, which may occur outside of regular operating hours;
- Undertake research on new and current technologies, methods and approaches towards the management of all transportationrelated assets, provide recommendations and initiate changes following approval;
- Provide functional guidance to staff for the implementation of facility asset management and capital program plans;
- Provide technical guidance and training to interns and coop students, provide quality assurance/quality control for field monitoring and site evaluation activities and assist with performance evaluation and hiring; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Postsecondary graduate from a recognized university with a degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related engineering program and a registered P. Eng. designation in good standing with the PEO (or eligibility), or
- 35 years of progressive municipal maintenance and construction experience
- Municipal transportation/transit asset management experience related to the development of asset management programs, needs studies, large scale condition assessment programs and multiyear capital program development;
- Ability to effectively coordinate, direct and supervise the activities of various construction contracts assigned;
- Demonstrated leadership potential to supervise contractors;
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with residents,contractors, developers, utility companies, external agencies and other stakeholders;
- Demonstrated tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public and elected officials;
- Effective decision making and problem solving skills with the ability to determine aneffective course of action that drives progression;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing tasks;
- A proven ability to lead meetings and discussions, prepare presentations, represent thesection, division or department at public meetings;
- Excellent analytical and decision making skills matched by strong attention to detail;
- Demonstrated project management experience relating to the development of asset management programs, road needs studies, condition assessments for transportation infrastructure and similar types of projects and studied
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the lifecycle and function of facility related infrastructure
- Strong multitasking, analytical and organizational skills
- Experience in coordinating large scale condition assessments for transportation related infrastructure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required
- Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills required
- May require light lifting of supplies/materials. Field work required exposure to weather and traffic.
- Exposure to computer keyboards and screens. Primarily office environment with hybrid work from home arrangements. Occasional field work.
