Database Administrator

Job Overview


The Database Administrator is to perform daily database administration against relational databases, including software installations and patching, shell scripting, backup and recovery, RMAN, database migrations, database refreshes, database maintenance tasks and problem resolution.

This position reports to the Application Services Manager

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform administration support for any of the following databases: Oracle DBMS, MS SQL, Azure SQL, MS Industrial SQL, MS Access
  • Conduct overall maintenance, administration, monitoring, and problem resolution for relational databases
  • Carry out database software installation and patching
  • Perform database creation and database migrations to alternate servers and database upgrades
  • Conduct database refreshes and clones
  • Experience with Oracle Data Guard
  • Proficient knowledge on SQL Server Always ON, installation configuration and tuning
  • Perform Oracle Backup & Recovery utilizing RMAN
  • Perform MS SQL Backup & Recovery utilizing MS tools
  • Working knowledge of Azure Cloud
  • Azure SQL administration, for PaaS config
  • Knowledge of Power BI (web portal, configuration, integration with Oracle, SQL data sources development)
  • Perform PL-SQL and T-SQL database performance and tuning
  • SQL Server both instance and query level, onprem and cloud
  • Oracle both instance and query level, onprem
  • Develop and maintain shell scripts
  • Maintain database and data security
  • Be available for offhours production support, with an oncall rotation
  • Maintain the production, development, and test databases that are deployed for Stelco systems
  • Recommend solutions by defining database attributes and functional capabilities, database security, data backup, and recovery specifications
  • Maintain database performance; implement new releases; complete maintenance requirements; and evaluate computer operating systems and hardware products
  • Oracle Enterprise Manager 13c Administration, installation, and upgrade
  • Experience in improving DBs security posturing with respect to compliance and vulnerability management
  • Experience with Tenable vulnerability management tool, for DB compliance
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with Idera Diagnostic tools, installation, and upgrade
  • Nice to have: Support and performance tune Extract, transform, load related data warehouse DB workloads

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Math, Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of experience as a Database Administrator
  • Strong understanding of relational database technologies
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Familiarity with performance and tuning
  • UNIX, LINUX, Windows, including shell scripting
  • Experience with at least 1 programming language or scripts
  • Familiarity with database architecture, both logical and physical
  • Understanding ERP systems (D365 is preferred)
  • Selfstarter with the ability to automate monitoring and administration tasks

Working conditions

  • Normal, fastpaced office environment for a high impact team.
  • Onsite / remote work options are available, this is not a 100% remote position and onsite presence will be required.
  • Offhours production support, with an oncall rotation required.
