We are seeking a driven and self-motivated individual to fill the role of Health and Safety Advisor.

Under the direction of our HSE & HR Manager, the role will be Health and Safety focused with an opportunity to gain experience in Human Resources Management.


As a member of the HSE and HR team, you will promote a strong employee and safety culture through the development and continual improvement of health, safety, environmental and employment programs.


Responsibilities:

Health and Safety (90%)

  • Support the maintenance of health, safety and environmental policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, maintain minutes and follow up on action lists.
  • Monitor, track and record daily paperwork submittals.
  • Maintain key performance metric, incident, and corrective action tracking sheets.
  • Complete employee onboarding tasks and conduct orientations.
  • Track and file employee training certifications; Schedule new and renewal training as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of safety talks, presentations, and training materials for employee meetings.
  • Support the development and modification of sitespecific safety and environmental plans; print and supply construction job binders.
  • Schedule and conduct inspections of worksites, emergency equipment and personal protective equipment. Organize the use of outside vendors as needed.
  • Participate in annual COR audits and action planning.
  • Maintain and update employee, tool/equipment, training, hazardous materials and SDS databases, lists and boards.
  • Coordinate and support the investigation of near misses and incidents and complete paperwork. submissions as required by our clients and regulatory authorities (WCB, OHS).
  • Support early and safe return to work planning for injured and ill employees; coordinate and complete forms, schedule meetings and monitor progress.
  • Maintain and update 3rd party contractor management databases (IsNetworld, Avetta & Complyworks).
  • Collect, compile, and report health and safety statistics as per client requirements.
  • Communicate and coordinate worksite mobilization of subcontractors.
  • Additional duties as needed to support the business.
HR (10%)

  • Maintain and update employee files.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Minimum of 35 years of health and safety experience in a construction environment; HR experience would be considered an asset but not necessary.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or Diploma.
  • Experience with the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program and audits.
  • CRSP designation or willingness to work towards obtaining.
  • Working knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal
  • Health, safety, environmental and employment legislation.
  • Confined Space and Technical Rescue experience considered an asset.

Employment Conditions:


  • Class 5 Drivers, with a clear abstract history for travel between office and worksites. A company vehicle is available for use.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment Alcohol & Drug test. This includes legal, illegal drugs and medications.
  • Ability to provide a criminal background clearance.

Job Type and Schedule:


  • Full-Time
  • Reports to the HSE & HR Manager
  • Monday to Friday, 8.5 hour shift which includes two 15 minute paid breaks and 30 min unpaid lunch.
