Norseman Structures is looking to add a Fiercely Reliable
Construction Planner to our team.


The Construction Planner is responsible for preparing and maintaining the construction resource schedule and preparing estimates using existing methods for construction activities.

The incumbent will review the building specifications to determine requirements and fully understand the construction scope and work required. This position will also work closely with subcontractors including building and maintaining relationships and obtaining quotes.


Job Duties

  • Evaluate construction progress and perform regular progress updates, as required.
  • Prepare and maintain the construction resource schedule to determine manpower requirements for each project
  • Assist with progress reporting to the project team projects team to ensure subcontractor/crew performance is in accordance with project timelines.
  • Participate in the planning and scheduling preparation process during pursuit and response to RFPs.
  • Develop schedule durations and available manpower and resources.
  • Reviews proposal and building specifications to determine project requirements and fully understand the work that is required.
  • Prepares estimates for construction activities and provides this information to the Proposal Coordinator.
  • Works with Construction Managers to understand and estimate internal labour man hours required and associated costs
  • Contacts subcontractors to gather quotes for cost of materials, labour, equipment and/or subcontracted labour required for a proposal. Reviews cost differences by analyzing the information gathered and comparing to project requirements. Selects a subcontractor to include in the estimate.
  • Maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors. Monitors prices for comparable items between subcontractors.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with preferred subcontractors.
  • Negotiates rates with service providers and maintains communication regarding the status of active estimates.
  • Reviews subcontractor qualifications to ensure they meet our minimum requirements and specifications

Requirements:


  • Technical training or related experience preferred. Bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering will also be considered.
  • Understanding of field construction operations and how a project is constructed, including logical sequencing of work through all phases of the project from pursuit to project closeout.
  • Ability to complete quantity takeoffs and understand productivity rates.
  • Understanding of planning and scheduling principles, best practices, and technique
  • Review drawings and quantify details for formulating schedules;
  • At least five (5) years of experience on a construction site, level will be highly preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines on multiple simultaneous projects
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and shift priorities as necessary.
  • Accurate and thorough; looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Proactive and selfdirected; yet able to work as part of a team.
  • Possess strong analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate collaboratively with team members.
  • Experience in Construction and/or Manufacturing an asset
  • Proficiency in the following areas: time management, written and verbal communication, problem solving and the use of Excel and Word
