  • Perform daytoday operation and maintenance of all network solutions, including a high number of remote network locations.
  • Ongoing enhancement and tuning of the network leveraging its capabilities to provide solutions for new initiatives.
  • Establish network performance standards and set up performance monitoring and alerting.
  • Monitoring logs and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity and implementing resolutions.
  • Evaluating resolutions, analyzing trends and developing and implementing measures to prevent future problems.
  • Providing analytical operational support including diagnosing and troubleshooting network physical or logical issues.
  • Provide network LAN support, patching of fiber/ copper network cables using specialized tools.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the IT Branch to ensure that all issues are addressed in a timely manner and proper coordination is carried out to minimize disruption of the corporate network.

Qualifications:


  • Degree an appropriate specialty specifically related to Network Infrastructure administration and analysis and 1 year of intensive network experience in switching, routing, and firewalls

OR Post Secondary Diploma specifically related to Network Infrastructure administration and analysis and 2 year of intensive network experience in switching, routing, and firewalls

OR Relevant Computer certificate programs generally have a minimum of 700+ instructional hours and will include relevant course work to the position. Completion of the twelfth school grade or GED is required and 4 year of intensive network experience in switching, routing, and firewalls

  • Experience with designing, monitoring, and securing IP networks over Ethernet, copper, fibre, and wireless environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of Cisco Switches and Routers including protocol like OSPF and BGP.
  • Checkpoint CCSA/CCSE certification would be an asset.
  • Cisco CCNA required, CCNP would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Wireless infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking and virtualization technologies.
  • Familiar with python and ansible for automation and integration with network devices.
  • Experience with Cisco Technologies like SDWAN, ACI, ISE and DNA would be an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, teamwork, verbal and written skills as well as a strong focus on customer service and troubleshooting.
  • Able to perform the physical requirements of the job, including lifting upto 35 kilograms.

  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
