    Position Summary

The School of Community Services, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Public Safety, offers several certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, and graduate certificate programs.Withinthiscontext of inspiringinnovation andexcellence,theSchoolofPublic Safetyiscurrently seeking a full-time Professor to teach in our Public Safety suite of programs beginning in August 2024.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach theory and practical courses in the areas of public safety, police foundations, security, and private investigation.
  • Supervise students on extensive community initiatives and crime prevention projects
  • Utilize creative teaching approaches to enhance student progress
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting students as they complete their respective programs of study. They will also berequired to engage in avariety of activities thatsupport teaching and learning and promote student success. These will includecurriculum development, lesson planning,assessing student progress and achievement,andclassmanagement. Beyond teachingduties, the successfulcandidatewillbeexpectedtoestablish an effective learning environmentandworkas acollaborativeteammembercontributingto the overalldirection of the programs. In addition, they will play an active role in studentadvisingandstudentrecruitment,assistingwiththepromotionand marketing of the program, and graduate placements.

    These activities will require that the incumbent help develop and maintain strong industry connections and community partnerships.The incumbent willalso have an opportunity to participatein college and schoolcommittees to advancetheCollege'sstrategicpriorities

    (Cambrian'sacademic year consists of three semesters, and this role may be required to deliver courses during the summer months. Cambrian offers programs and courses in-person, online, or in a HyFlex mode of delivery, which includes in-person, virtual synchronous, or fully online asynchronous participation, and this role may be required to deliver courses in multiple modes.)

    Qualifications

  • University degree (or an equivalent amount of progressive relevant training). (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application)
  • Current or recent employment experience in policing, public safety and/or security.
  • Previousteachingexperience, preferably at the postsecondary level.
  • Ability to relate and communicatepositively, effectively, andprofessionally with others and function effectively within ateam environment.
  • Ability to provide leadershipand mentorship and be aneffective role model in the classroom.
  • Ability to utilize creative teaching approaches and current andemergingteachingand learningstrategies toenhancestudent success.
  • Ability to use various educational technologies, including in-class media presentation systems, learning management systems, and other relevant classroom technologies.
  • Ability to work with students fromdiverseeducational,religious,andculturalbackgrounds.
  • Solid commitment to students and education.
  • Excellentwrittencommunication skills and exceptional interpersonalskills.
  • Strong computer literacy and effective critical thinkingand organizational skills.
