Status:

The Position:

The scope of the position involves supervising, managing & developing the "Consultation Division"; responsible for Design, Consultation & Support of projects.

This includes the oversite of the associated projects design staff and related subconsultants, working with clients & their design teams, our subcontractors and suppliers; in the execution of our projects or project consultation work.

The position is the primary contact of our consultation clients and internal projects or operations divisions. This position is an office position, not a remote position.


Subject to change; this position oversees a fluctuating design staff of 8-10 staff, overseeing multiple consultant projects and supporting active projects concurrently.


The Design Department Manager - Consultation Division **is a senior-level role within our Firm, reporting to the President & CEO. This is a demanding role which includes the overall management of the division while co-managing various tasks.

In this role, you will be expected to support one or more of the following as required:


  • Supervising and mentoring the members of the Design team
  • Conducting Performance Reviews of the Design team direct report staff.
  • Scheduling staff hours and work schedules.
  • Management of the department Work In Progress (WIP) forms and documents.
  • Responsible for department profitability and staff work tracking through our SSO sage scheduling and billing system.
  • Responsible for signoff of monthly design billingsboth consultation projects and active projects administration draws (shops, as build/close outs)
  • Responsible to sign off on all project submissions and P Eng. stamped submissions & managing the departmental peer review process.
  • Entrusted to bring the following into the department to elevate profitability and efficiency:
  • Design development intent packages, drawings, sections and plans & details of projects.
  • Full permit drawings and details
  • OBC checklist submissions
  • Issued for construction drawings and details


  • Project management

  • SI and replies to RFI
  • Shop drawing packages
  • Closeouts and as built pkgs
  • Responsible to develop and maintain the Rivet library and standards, the sketchup library and standards and the CAD block library and standards.
  • Responsible to develop and maintain fabrication drawing library and standards
  • Responsible to develop and maintain the specifications library and standards
  • Responsible to develop bid & tender packages
  • Responsible to develop consultation reports
  • Oversee & coordinate site audits, QC inspections and associated reports where applicable.
This Position will Oversee the Project Design Department with:

  • REVIT hands-on experience and knowledge is required
  • AutoCAD design handson experience and knowledge is a mandatory requirement
  • Drafting and design of allocated Design Projects
  • Renderings design, drafting, and video rendering
  • Cut sheet design/development submissions
  • Source new vendors, materials, codes, technologies, and pricing as assigned.
  • Internal communication with Accounting Department, for billings and project drawings relating to the Design Department's WIP
  • Work with Department Managers, Estimators, Project Managers, Site Supervisors and the President & CEO as required.
  • Answer telephone and queries when other positions within the Design/Projects department are busy, ensuring also that there is adequate phone coverage during the lunch hour
  • Attend client project meetings where assigned by the President and CEO or VP of projects.
  • Other tasks as directed/assigned by the President & CEO
  • Delegate responsibilities as required for proficiency within department activities.
  • Exceed client communication expectations; as the primary contact for project design/consultation work (both internal and external clients) providing timely and effectively communication in writing, in person, at remote meetings and on calls; is key to the success and expectations of the role.
  • Manage the departmental QC program including; kick off meetings, peer review processes, oversite and departmental meetings and trainings, to confirm satisfaction prior to submissions throughout projects.
