Counsellor (1.0 FTE)

(Effective January 31, 2023)

Position overview:

Provide counselling services and support to students regarding personal, social, and educational areas. Provide individual and when needed small group counselling and facilitation. The role may require small group and classroom instruction through collaboration and facilitation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Duties may include but are not limited to;

Assist parents, teachers, tutors and colleagues in understanding and responding to developmental levels of students and their needs/concerns
Consult, liaise, collaborate with parents/caregivers, teachers administrators, tutors and other educational/community resource professionals regarding students providing resources and support when required
Make appropriate referrals for students and/or families/caregivers to school and community programs/resources as needed
Ability to exercise ethical decisionmaking
Maintain upto date and accurate confidential records
Ability to plan and conduct inservicing for staff as needed
Demonstrate continual professional development through workshops/conference
Adheres to professional and ethical standards of school counseling
Knowledgeable about a diverse range of issues including bereavement and loss, transitions, cultural and social complications
Knowledge regarding reporting procedures for concerns such as child abuse, violence and drug issues
Knowledge of the classroom management techniques
Knowledge of Integrated Case Management
Knowledge and ability to use a variety of counselling theories and techniques to meet developmental preventive and remedial needs of students
Knowledge of the DSM 5 and other Assessment tools/scales
Knowledge of RTI, FBA and SEL

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Counselling or Master's Degree in School Counselling

including a counselling/ therapy practicum at an educational setting

Masters of Social Work considered
Advanced coursework in group counselling, testing and assessment, theoriesb of various psychological and counselling methods/techniques and mental health
BC Teacher Certification
Successful classroom teaching experience with students K to 1
Criminal Record Check
Experience providing individual and group counselling
