    Job Information

Fort Simpson stands as the vibrant heart of the Dehcho region, serving as both the gateway to Nahanni National Park Reserve and a bastion of Indigenous culture and tradition. It's accessibility via the picturesque Liard Trail Highway from Fort Nelson, British Columbia, or a drive from High Level, Alberta along the Mackenzie River, makes it a beacon for travelers.

Amidst this backdrop, the Nurse in Charge (NIC) plays a pivotal role, overseeing the delivery of community health services. These services encompass a spectrum from non-emergency medical care to managing medical crises requiring swift decision-making beyond standard nursing protocols. You will spearhead nursing programs aimed at fostering community health and wellness. With a commitment to round-the-clock care, the NIC provides on-call coverage during evenings and weekends, ensuring prompt emergency nursing assistance.

This role demands a comprehensive skill set centered around advanced nursing knowledge and practice. This includes a profound understanding and application of nursing processes—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—as well as current nursing standards, including public health protocols, to ensure holistic patient care addressing physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs. Additionally, you must possess the ability to educate patients and their families on self-care methods and techniques when necessary. Lastly, effective supervision and support of staff are essential components of the role, requiring strong leadership skills.

To be considered for this role, you must have a successful completion of a Nursing Degree, 3 years recent nursing experience with at least 1 year in a northern health center and 6 months supervisory experience.
