Summary of Duties:


The OTA&PTA receives assignments from Physiotherapists (PT) and Occupational Therapists (OT), and collaborates with members of the interprofessional team to promote a safe caring environment for residents and patients in the Veterans Program.


  • Perform a variety of appropriate therapeutic activities as directed by the supervising PTs and OTs. Therapeutic activities may include, but are not limited to; strengthening, range of motion, progress ADL's and function, setup of wheelchair and seating products, gait training, balance training, exercise classes, providing physical assistance to PT/OT during assessment/ treatment etc.
  • Ensure the ongoing integrity and function of therapeutic equipment and treatment areas
  • Manage and maintain inventory of therapeutic supplies, assessment and resource forms, and kitchen supplies
  • Provide preventive maintenance to therapy equipment
  • Maintain regular communication with the PTs and OTs regarding any changes or concerns about a resident's program or their health status, as well as ongoing communication with the interprofessional team
  • Maintain accurate and timely workload measurement data, therapy minutes and documentation according to Hospital standards
  • Involved with the education of OTA/PTA students as appropriate
  • Participates on appropriate committees pertaining to the operation of the unit/ service and participates in disciplinespecific activities within Sunnybrook
  • Conduct work in a safe manner; prevention, identification and reporting of safety issues and problems; taking corrective action, where possible; attendance at safety meetings / training/ updates in accordance with the Hospital's standards

Qualifications/Skills:


  • OTA /PTA diploma from a recognized OTA/PTA program
  • Previous experience working with older adults in a residential care, palliative care or transitional care settings is an asset
  • Well
- developed skills in time management, problem solving, and collaboration in a team environment required

  • Proven computer skills
  • Excellent oral, written and nonverbal communication skills required
  • Understanding compensatory and remediation principles preferred
  • Ability to use hand tools (e.g. for equipment repairs)
  • Demonstrate professional judgement and interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families and interprofessional team
  • Proven ability to be responsible for carrying out assigned tasks with mínimal supervision
  • Basic knowledge of exercise equipment, gait aids, wheelchairs and seating products preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to Person-Centred Care
