The Opportunity:

Are you a certified Firefighter and Fire Services Instructor? Do you have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to change, maintain a positive attitude, and demonstrate progress towards organizational goals? We are hiring a Firefighter Specialist Training Officer


Under the direction of the Lead Emergency Services, the Firefighter Specialist Training Officer is responsible and accountable for performing functions and duties related to the planning, delivery, maintenance, and evaluation of education and training programs and specialty courses of the department, the reputation and continuing growth of the training program for Staff at all levels.

The Firefighter Specialist Training Officer assists in the design and development of programs and training aids.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Instruct fire service personnel in all phases of fire department operation
  • Formulate standard methods, including prefire planning of instruction and evaluation
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and learning aids
  • Perform necessary duties to setup, inspect, test and return to service all equipment and technical training devices used for classes and learning activities
  • Emphasize health and safety throughout training and on the job
  • Liaise with members of the Fire Department to understand learning needs, and act as industry liaison
  • Maintain complete records on all training conducted
  • Manage projects, working in cooperation with all members of the Fire Services team
  • Responsible and accountable for knowing and working in accordance with the departments and Canadian Natural's health and safety policies
  • Participate in the development and training programs of our Mutual Aid Partners
  • Have a clear understanding of the training budget and forecast

  • Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta (Onsite)
  • Shift schedule: 7 x 7 days, Hourly
  • This is a safety sensitive position

Skills & Qualifications:


  • Grade 12 diploma or a recognized equivalent


  • Firefighter

  • NFPA 1001 Level II, IFSAC or Pro Board Certified (minimum 10 years' Experience)


  • Driver Operator/Pump Operator

  • NFPA 1002 IFSAC or Pro Board Certified


  • Instructor

  • NFPA 1041 Level 2, IFSAC or Pro Board Certified (minimum 5 years' Experience)
  • Blue Card Instructor (preferred)


  • Fire Officer

  • NFPA 1021 Level 1, IFSAC or Pro Board Certified


  • Aircraft Rescue Firefighter

  • NFPA 1003, IFSAC or Pro Board Certified (preferred)


  • Technician

  • NFPA 1006, IFSAC or Pro Board Certified


  • Technician
HAZMAT
  • NFPA 1072, IFSAC or Pro Board Certified
  • Minimum of ACP EMR Certification PCP preferred
  • Physical Fitness; must meet standards of physical fitness prescribed for firefighters
