The Financial Coordinator manages financial activities of the portfolios of UBC Sauder units located at the Robson Square (Development and Alumni Engagement, Executive Education and Continuous Business Studies), performs core accounting functions and general financial activities for other UBC Sauder units, analyses financial operations and makes recommendations to improve efficiencies, prepares annual budgets and forecasts and ensures compliance with GAAP, CRA, PCI and University policies, procedures and tax regulations.


The Financial Coordinator is responsible for preparing comprehensive financial reports, overseeing the evaluation and preparation of complex student enrolment system month-end accounting entries and providing guidance and functional supervision to union employees and student workers in the UBC Sauder Finance and Procurement Office.


This role is primarily based at the UBC Point Grey Campus, with at least 1 day a week worked at the Robson Square campus.


Organizational Status- Reports to the Associate Director, Finance.- Works closely with and provides guidance to financial specialists in the unit.- Works collaboratively with UBC Sauder leadership team in the revenue-generating units.- Interacts with and provides financial advice/support to UBC Sauder business units, specifically revenue-generating units.- Liaises and fosters effective working relationships with UBC Central Finance Team, Financial Operations/Payment & Procurement Services and other agencies.


Work Performed- Performs core accounting functions and general financial activities for UBC Sauder units.- Oversees financial processes and financial activities for the UBC Sauder revenue-generating units, including daily balancing, complex month-end tuition revenue recognition, reconciliation and AR entries.- Prepares a wide variety of comprehensive financial reports (cost-volume-profit reports, quarter-end accruals report, etc.) as required with the use of spreadsheets and other reporting tools.

Develops new reports as required.- Manages financial activities and operations of the UBC Sauder Development and Alumni Engagement, Executive Education and Continuous Business Studies units, including analyzing financial operations and making recommendations to improve efficiencies.- Provides advice, direction and guidance concerning budget, accounting and financial matters, accounting policy interpretation and sound business practices.- Reviews several multimillion‐dollar operational budgets, evaluates financial priorities and resolves any discrepancies.- Ensures that financial statements accurately reflect the finances of the programs and all projects in the unit; finalizes year-end working papers and financial statements.- Analyzes expenditure variances, forecasts and highlights anomalies.
