uOttawa's facilities encompass three main sites that are comprised of over 600,000 square meters of building space (over 6.4 million square feet), 42.5 hectares of grounds, 125 buildings and 4,500 beds in 11 residences.

There are over 150 employees in Facilities, including Project Managers, Energy and Commissioning Specialists, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Architects, and space Planners.

The facilities capital and operating expenditures are in the range of $100M for the University's $2.0 billion assets under management.

The 20-year Capital spending plan envisions $4.0 billion of new investment highlighted by uOttawa launch of project Top Shelf, a $300 million capital investment to build a new facility for the Faculty of Health Sciences at uOttawa's River Campus, as well as a tower at the Roger Guidon campus to house uOttawa's new Advanced Medical Research Center (AMRC).


Position purpose:


Reporting to the Senior Director, Project Management, Construction, the Lead Project Manager (PM), Project Management, is responsible for the delivery of between 8 and 12 construction, renovation, and energy optimization projects annually, having a combined value ranging between $8-$15 million.

The PM is wholly accountable and empowered for project decisions, and responsible to collaborate with internal clients while leading the project through each phase to ensure clients are satisfied with the services provided.

In this capacity, the PM will work with stakeholders to develop project plans, and manage their execution to deliver projects on time, on scope, and on budget while ensuring quality, operational alignment, and mitigating risks to the University.

In addition, the PM will collaborate with internal team members, vendors, consultants and partners to manage day to day project issues/changes, and oversee all financial and commercial matters needed to achieve project success.


In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Manage the delivery of assigned projects through all states of project life cycle from initiation to project close out to ensure project outputs are being delivered as per project objectives, on schedule, to budget and to the required quality.

Ensure optimal development of assigned projects by directing the preparation of studies, designs, plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Ensure clear objectives are established by discussing project priorities with client, developing project work plans and schedules.


Proactively liaise with and report progress to internal client or project sponsor to ensure that they are informed of project progress and ensure that their opinions or requirements are taken into consideration as the project progresses.

Propose and negotiate options or alternative solutions with stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered as per expectations.


Establish and maintain positive and effective working relations with all members of the project delivery team and operations team to ensure the efficiency of interactions between the teams.
