Job Title:
Assistant Recreation Worker


Supervised by:
Program Supervisor, Social Club


Hours of Work:

On average, one to three shifts per week will be worked depending on club activities.


Flexibility in these hours is required and expected to allow for staff training, client and program needs, special agency functions, staffing fluctuations and other responsibilities.


Mandatory Requirements:


  • Lived experience with mental illness preferably as a consumer of services.
  • Current safe food handling certification.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID19.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma.
  • Valid driver's license, current personal vehicle insurance and a clean driving abstract.
  • Some employment experience in the social service/mental health/recreation field.
  • Basic understanding of the role of therapeutic recreation and its principles.

  • Able to interact with clients using common courtesy and respect, active listening and empathy.
  • Able to work cooperatively as part of a team with coworkers of the program, and show new coworkers some aspects of the job.
  • Competency in own recovery and in maintaining ongoing holistic wellness including good hygiene.
  • Must maintain and respect boundaries and not enter into personal relationships with clients.
  • Must have the capability and flexibility of handling and juggling the diverse activities and demand occurring in the group setting.
  • Ability to convey a vibrant energy that attracts members and enables both staff and members to grow, support the rehabilitation of members.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.

Agency Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Adhere to all Wendat policies, procedures and Code of Ethics.
  • Ensures at all times the confidentiality of client, staff and agency information.
  • Establishes relationships outside of the agency in a manner so as to enhance the reputation of the organization and facilitate the support and community acceptance of persons struggling with mental wellness.
  • Exhibit trustworthy behaviour in matters related to agency resources.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate records, reports and statistics as required by the agency.
  • Participate in staff meetings, agency committees and external committees, seminars, projects and training as appropriate.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Works collaboratively with the Club team and responds to requests and direction from the Program Supervisor or most Senior Recreation worker on duty.
  • Work with team to set up work space as needed for each activity. Restore environment after each activity.
  • Ensure the continued cleanliness and general good organization of the club and its property.
  • Check and spot clean the washrooms.
  • Perform all cleaning tasks as outlined on the job duty list, complete laundry as needed.
  • Answers the telephone as needed. Record messages, if you cannot answer a question, give the message to the Supervisor or most senior staff on duty.
  • Provide skill building activities, increase social experiences, and build supportive relationships with a meaningful, compassionate approach making sure Club Members feel welcome.
  • Completing member intake forms, tour of the club, activity sign up book, description of programs as needed.
  • Accurately and legibly complete any required documentation including attendance of club activities and transportation.
  • Actively promote the Clubhouse activities, describe the programs and assist members in signing up.
  • Ensures the safety of the Club members and security of the building and its contents.
  • Completes the Ontario Common Assessment of Needs annually.

Cooking:


  • Prepare food, meals and drinks. Be sure the fan on the stove is being used, crack the window, clean up any spills in the ovens.
  • Ensure the kitchen is cleaned and sanitized after each shift.
  • On cooking shifts, staff must provide the Program Supervisor with a menu and list of ingredients by the 15th of the prior month.

Other:


  • Other appropriate tasks as assigned by the Program Supervisor.

Job Types:
Part-time, Fixed term contract, Casual


Pay:
$16.55-$16.65 per hour

Expected hours: - 6 per week
