Position Profile:
The Asphalt Technician's goal is to ensure the final quality of Asphalt products, ensuring the highest customer satisfaction for the products.
General Duties:
- Active testing of raw materials, work in progress and finished goods
- Design and development of asphalt products to service our customers needs (design aggregate skeleton of the various mix types, i.e. Marshall, Superpave, SMA, OGFC, etc)
- Responsible for the testing, evaluation and preparation of the above noted mix design types
- Maintain quality as per specification requirements
- Accurate and ontime reports
- Maintain and develop strong working relationship with plant staff, customers and/or representatives
- Performs precise field and laboratory sampling and testing services on construction materials to determine suitability of materials
- To interpret calculations, specifications, tolerances, standards, etc.
- Rejects defective work and materials ensuring quality of construction materials
- Communicates both orally and in writing on the findings of tests results and analysis
- Provides detailed daily testing reports of laboratory testing results, and keeps records organized
- Performs additional duties as assigned
- Able to work independently and in a team environment
- Able to work a variety of hours including some evenings and weekends
Safety and Environment
- Adhere to all company safety and environmental practices and policies training provided
- Enforce safety on the work site (truckers, visitors, and plant crew)
- Contribute toward the overall success of the safety program by following set rules procedures and practices
- Identify and report workplace hazards and make positive suggestions for their elimination or control
- Generally, perform duties in the safest manner prescribed
- Required PPE must be worn at all times
Maintenance
- Complete recommended routine maintenance and calibrations on the lab equipment
- Responsible for updating and maintaining all equipment maintenance and calibration records
Qualifications:
- Completion of Civil Technologist Diploma or equivalent
- CET would be an asset
- Able to understand and work with QC lab equipment
- Experience working in lab environment
- CCIL Technician Certifications would be an asset
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, which may include night shifts and overtime
- Preemployment medical including drug & alcohol testing and a criminal record check may be required
- A reliable vehicle is required for this position
