Position Overview
Reports to the Director of the Language and Cognitive Development Laboratory.

Tasks in lab are varied with moderate to high complexity - primarily recruiting participants, conducting studies, training students and volunteers, coordinating lab research activities, and managing a participant database.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Recruit participants for studies from a database
- conduct research activities with participants and their families (potentially both online and at the University of Calgary campus)

  • Train students and staff in the use of study procedures and protocols
  • Determine priorities and deadlines for self and others, and oversee the students, staff, and volunteer who work in the lab and conduct developmental research
  • Oversee completion of projects and tasks with the supervisor
  • Working in a laboratory space providing research support in the area of early development
  • Work closely with the PIs, team members, and research participants
  • Maintain the LCD Lab website

Qualifications / Requirements:


  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a lab conducting child development or related research
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Intermediate level of expertise with Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to work in a team environment with research participants and lab associates
  • Strong ability to communicate and interact with participants and their families, as well as community organizations in a friendly, respectful, and timely manner
  • Ability to follow specific directions and research protocols
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Knowledge and skills of recruitment and selection practices of research participants
  • Problemsolving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with undergraduate students, graduate students, research participants and professors
  • Knowledge of eyetracking equipment/programs
