Scope
Responsible for ongoing settlement counselling and full scope of settlement assistance including
immediate and settlement needs assessment, solution focused counselling, delivering
group/individual orientation, information and referral provision, interpretation, and employment
related counselling.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide the full range of settlement services to new immigrants and newcomer families
  • Deliver settlement needs assessments for each newcomer or newcomer family
  • Provide solution focused counselling by setting settlement goals and developing plan of
action for every client

  • Connect newcomer with the internal programs and modules of settlement services delivery
  • Provide interpretation for languages tested to eligible clients required for addressing
settlement needs

  • Conduct regular follow up identifying if set goals have been met
  • Organize and facilitate information group sessions on settlement topics
  • Organize and facilitate newcomer clubs for target community
  • Recruit settlement mentors, perform matching and regular monitoring of mentor and
newcomer connection

  • Provide information and referral to external programs and services that will be determined
by each client/family

  • Provides comprehensive information on orientation to Canadian society
  • Conduct program promotion sessions to reach immigrants and to promote public awareness
of the program and settlement issues

  • Maintain and expand client's base through outreach, community penetration and itinerate
functions, which includes off-site visits, developing of outreach materials and promoting
community networks to link newcomers

  • Maintain strong working relations with agency programs and partner agencies
  • Effectively track services in internal and external databases and provide accurate reporting
for supervisor

  • Achieve the targets set by program manager
  • Actively participate in the professional development initiatives
  • Other program operational duties assigned

Qualifications:


  • A degree/Diploma in Social Work, Counselling or Education and at least three years'
experience working with immigrant communities or a combination of experience and
education that fulfills the requirements

  • Registered Social Worker (RSW) is a definite asset
  • Language Proficiency certificate identifying the fluency of English and target language
skills (for ATIO members present the certificate of membership)

  • Comprehensive Knowledge of Polycultural's Service delivery manual
  • Knowledge of immigration and refugee services and of the ethnospecific programs and
services in the GTA

  • Familiarity with issues facing newcomers in Canadian urban setting and systemic barrier
facing integration in education, social, cultura
