CHRYSALIS ALBERTA SOCIETY FOR CITIZENS WITH DISABILITIES


Chrysalis is a non for profit organization who provides services and support to adults with developmental disabilities in Edmonton and Calgary.

In addition, we have two manufacturing businesses producing plastic and wood products.


The role of the CDSP Creative Arts Assistant is first and foremost a Community Disability Support Practitioner with a fine arts background and facilitation experience.

This role works directly with People Accessing Services (PAS) introducing a variety of art forms, including but not limited to painting, crafting, creative writing, music, dance and performance.

This role will work closely with the Program Team to work on individual's art goals identified through the Human Centered Design (HCD) process, using multiple artistic modalities to enhance their expression and experience in meaningful and supportive opportunities for their personal growth.

It is a responsibility of the CDSP Creative Arts Assistant to ensure the safety and well being of all PAS and colleagues.


Key Responsibilities

  • Offer creative art programs to PAS, including but not limited to painting, crafting, creative writing, music, dance and performance
  • Open the Studio daily, conduct inventory and tidy up the Studio
  • Assist in exploring new art program direction, such as photography, multimedia, sewing, pottery or any other specialties or areas of interest and proficiency
  • Introduce new art mediums, techniques, styles and skills to the artists and staff members supporting the PAS in the art room, and facilitate discussions
  • Work with individual artists on their artrelated HCD goals
  • Engage PAS in art events and activities offered internally or externally, including exhibitions, shows, workshops and connect with the art community
  • Foster independent skills and interpersonal relationships, ensuring consistent opportunities for community connections, selfdetermination, and maintaining quality services

Requirements:


  • Strong background of fine arts
  • A certificate in disabilities studies/rehabilitation or other related studies or educational equivalent and/or relevant work experience with people with developmental disabilities maybe an asset
  • A practical understanding of relevant general and organizationspecific policies, procedures, operational protocols, legislation, professional ethics codes and guidelines, contract terms and conditions, and other practice guidelines.
  • Effective timemanagement and prioritysetting skills, and the ability to balance competing demands/priorities and deal with competing opinions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Creative, innovative, courageous and passionate
  • Able to motivate, influence and engage others

$20.00 per hour
