Position Description:

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is Canada's leading paediatric hospital, located in downtown Toronto.

SickKids continually strives to be a leader in healthcare and is currently undergoing a phased strategic capital planning initiative to redevelop and transform the SickKids campus to support the future delivery of world class paediatric healthcare, teaching and research.


SickKids' Facilities Development department is seeking a
Project Coordinator with the skills and knowledge required to participate in the successful delivery of capital redevelopment / construction projects for the organization.

The role will require an incumbent with good communication skills, leadership, people skills, ambition, drive, and time management traits that would provide effective skills within your role to execute your projects and initiatives and predict outcomes ahead of completion.

SickKids is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate individual that is committed to their goals within their role and will work with a can-do attitude.

Your role will require you to be an efficient contributor with the capabilities of solving problems, either with the team or individually; with support from other members of the Facilities Planning and Development (FPD) team, FPD Directors, or other leaders within the portfolio, as required.

An effective Project Coordinator within this role will require you to plan effectively; ensuring that the work is coordinated, organized and completed in an efficient manner.


  • The Project Coordinator will provide support in the management, development and progression of project assignments from conception to final occupancy. Projects include renovations, decanting, planning and other related work to ensure that project objectives, including schedule, budget are met and improved when possible in accordance to the departmental Project Guidelines and Procedures Manual. The Project Coordinator will also be assigned to manage minor projects from concept to final occupancy.
  • Other duties of the Project Coordinator include site review, validation and update of space plans as it pertains to the space management program (Archibus), scanning and archiving of FPD hard copy documents, general organization / disposal of FPD documents and equipment and other duties as required.
  • The Project Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Facilities Planning and Development Team (FPD), the Project Horizon Team, stakeholders, consultants and other partner departments as required.
  • The Project Coordinator will also be required to work with other members of the FPD team on a variety of assignments, projects, tasks or initiatives.
  • The Project Coordinator will work as part of the FPD resource pool team providing minor services to a variety of clients.
  • The Project Coordinator will have experience, general knowledge and understanding of capital redevelopment projects working in a complex academic healthcare organization from planning to construction to occupancy.

Project Coordination

Involved in the following activities:

  • Scheduling and coordination of planning meetings with department representatives, consultants and required team members
  • Coordinate reviews and evaluate user supplied information to ensure the produced documents are complete and capture the intent of the department's requirements
  • Develop RFP's as required for Consultants and other vendors as required for the project
  • Ensures that all contractors have appropriate documentation and approval to undertake the work
  • Interface with contractors, consultants and building authorities during construction
  • Maintain effective working relationships between all stakeholders, contractors, consultants and others on projects
  • Controls project related documents in accordance with the procedures for document control and filing as per departmental Project Guidelines and Procedure Manual
