MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICITONS COUNSELLOR, TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM (0.4 FTE)
YW Calgary works to provide preventive and restorative services for women and their families to help them
thrive. Our mission is to intervene, empower and lead where people need us most. We are committed to
advocating for mental health, supporting those experiencing domestic violence and enabling women's economic
prosperity.

You are knowledgeable and possess hands‐on successful experience in delivering gender responsive clinical
services to women living at the YW Calgary. Working from a responsive, crisis intervention and solution focused
style, your counselling strategies and guidance will aim to empower those impacted by addictions and mental
health issues.

Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the Lead Counsellor is responsible for delivering gender responsive clinical
services to women living at the YW Calgary. The Counsellor delivers responsive crisis intervention in times of need
as well as strength based, solution focused, validated interventions on an individualized and group basis. This role
has a focus on addictions and mental health issues.


This is a part time position, working 15 hours per week, from 9am to 5pm.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Complete intake, needs, and risk assessments and document clients' progress and follow up
***Provide therapeutic supports and interventions in the areas of mental health, addictions, domestic abuse

and trauma
Case consultation of complex cases with team and external service providers as needed.
Develop & evaluate treatment plans and therapeutic progress, maintain clinical records and reporting

requirements
***Educate clients and staff on the epidemiology of addiction and mental health illness
Facilitate at least one clinical group per month
***Keep up to date on evidence‐based practice related to the program, i.e. homelessness, domestic violence,

mental health, feminist practice

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or related field
***Registration with professional college or regulating body recognized under the Health Professions Act
***ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and CPR/First Aid Certification required
***Training and experience in treatment options such as EMDR, DBT, mind/body therapies, and Solution‐

Focused Brief Therapy
is preferred
Working knowledge of the impacts of abuse, violence and trauma on individuals
Knowledge of issues specific to women experiencing homelessness, trauma, domestic violence, addictions

and mental health
Accomplish activities with an equity, diversity and inclusion lens
