About the role


Canadian Operations and Client Experience Office (CXO) are support units within Sun Life Canada accountable for the execution of business processes and projects supporting Sun Life Health, Group Retirement Services, Retail Advice & Solutions, and Investment Solutions.

With over 6,000 FTEs in Canada and Asia, and an annual budget of over $1 billion, it creates value for the enterprise by delivering industry-leading customer service and focusing on increasing productivity and efficiency.


Reporting to the VP and CFO, CXO & Operations Finance, the AVP CXO & Operations Finance COE will focus on overseeing the development and successful execution of the centralization, rationalization, standardization, and optimization of Operations and CXO financial, telephony, and/or operational metric reporting.

The goal of this role is to ensure we have a scalable, operationally resilient reporting function that compliments and supports the Financial Planning & Analysis team within CX&O Finance.


What you'll be doing

  • Build a high performing team of reporting professionals, both onshore and offshore, leveraging SLGS (India and/or Philippines);
  • Create operational resilience by ensuring we eliminate keyperson risk and ensure that all functions are documented, and we have sufficient coverage on all capabilities;
  • Centralize all reporting of financial data as well as operational and telephony reporting;
  • Lead the development of a technology solution that aggregates all data and normalizes for the purposes of developing report automation;
  • Eliminate inefficiencies and identify areas of duplication and/or overlap;
  • Develop automated reporting models that support a scalable and resilient reporting function that supports and compliments the FP&A function;
  • Build and nourish a high performing team that supports year over year improvements in employee satisfaction;
  • Effectively manage performance issues while simultaneously recognizing and developing high performing talent; and
  • Build and foster solid relationships with our internal and external stakeholders, across business units and geographies.

What you'll need to succeed

  • High degree of competency with financial planning & reporting concepts;
  • Exceptional relationship skills, requiring to manage both onshore stakeholders and offshore business partners;
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to build and nourish a high performing team and lead by example, recognize top talent and actively manage performance issues; embodying the Sun Life core values;
  • Strong presentation skills, being able to develop and lead presentations to stakeholders from across Sun Life (at all levels, up to and including the Executive Team);
  • Adeptness with using technology tools for data aggregation, capture and presentation;
  • Proven task and project management experience resulting in quality deliverables;
  • Ability to break down complex scenarios to facilitate analysis and identify solutions;
  • Analytical thinking designs/orchestrates use of business analytics for strategic decision making;
  • Strong business acumen big picture understanding of business, interrelationships, priorities;
  • Results oriented and critical thinking high sense of ownership;
  • Capable of distilling complex concepts into simple key messages and insights;
  • Problem solving skills with a natural curiosity for root cause analysis to identify key levers of financial and operational performance;
  • Workstyle hybrid, minimum of 23 days in the office;
  • Travel occasional, largely to our business partners in Asia

Education and Technical Skills

  • MBA, CPA, Bachelor's degree with a focus on business or commensurate experience required;
  • 10 years of FP&A and/or Finance Reporting experience required;
  • 10+ years of working in a large, highly sophisticated financial services firm;
  • The ability to introduce and leverage new tools such as ThinkCell, Python, Alteryx to support increased ease and efficiency.
