Advanced Clinical Pharmacist - Victoria, Canada - The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Description
Job summary
An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for two enthusiastic and driven Advanced Clinical Pharmacists to join the Medicine and Emergency Care team at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals.
We are looking for innovative individuals to help develop and lead the pharmacy service into the specialist areas of Dermatology and Rheumatology. The Trust has provided significant investment into pharmacy and views us as integral for the future. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills into your specialist area and become a key part of both the clinical and pharmacy teams, all to help provide the best possible care for our patients.
These roles will be based at one of our large teaching hospitals, the Freeman Hospital or the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
This is an exciting time for the team at Newcastle as we look to expand and develop our team. We would strongly encourage interested individuals to get in contact for an informal chat or visit to understand more about the Trust and roles.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate(s) will work to establish themselves in both the specialist clinical team and the existing Clinical Pharmacy team. You will need to have excellent communication and decision-making skills, and be an experienced independent prescriber, ideally with experience of prescribing specialist medications ( Monoclonal Antibodies and other immunosuppression).
There will be an expectation that the Pharmacists in these roles will help to deliver biosimilar switches and other innovation projects for their area of expertise now, and ongoing in the future.
There will be plenty of scope to develop the service into your specialist area based on the needs of the service and interest and you will be crucial in driving the direction of travel. The roles will offer the opportunity to provide your expertise to both inpatients and outpatients.
There will be opportunities for personal and professional development within the role. Links with the school of pharmacy and Newcastle University will present opportunities to be involved in research and education. There is ample opportunity to develop your supervision and management skills in the department. There will be some operational commitments as part of the role, including weekend working and line management.
About us
Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the busiest, largest and most successful teaching NHS foundation trusts in the country, with around 16,000 staff and an annual income of £1 billion.

We're also proud to be the second largest provider of specialised services in the country. This means we support people with a range of rare and complex medical, surgical and neurological conditions, cancers and genetic orders.
Our staff oversee around 2 million patients 'contacts' each year, delivering high standards of healthcare.
Please see attached information on what Staff Benefits we have to offer at our Trust.
We are committed to promoting equality and diversity and recognise the benefit in providing an inclusive environment. We value and respect the diversity of our employees and aim to recruit a workforce which reflects the communities we serve, and is equipped to deliver the best service to our patients. We welcome all applications irrespective of people's race, disability, gender, sexual orientation, religion or belief, age, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity and in particular those from under- represented groups.
Job descriptionJob responsibilities

To undertake an agreed prescribing role within agreed clinical area.
To participate in the provision of clinical and patient services functions.
To promote the safe, rational and cost effective use of medicines by working closely with nursing and medical staff and health care managers.

As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.
Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS method of payment is a salary deduction from your first months pay.
