    Description

    Overview

    Reporting to the Unit Manager and co-reporting to the Manager, Nursing and HHR Workforce Initiatives, the Clinical Scholar is an experienced point of care nurse in a supernumerary position dedicated to supporting newly graduated nurses, Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) and nurses enhancing their skills and competencies. Responsibilities include providing leadership, clinical coaching, and mentorship for a successful integration into the team and patient care delivery, emphasizing excellence and patient-centered care.

    This is a temporary Full Time role with a 6-month contract, extendable, requiring flexibility to work varying shifts.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides on-unit support, clinical coaching, and mentorship to newly graduated nurses to facilitate a smooth transition into practice.
    • Guides new nurses to practice within their competence level and according to nursing standards and best practices.
    • Supports critical thinking and problem-solving skills by leading the nursing process, from assessment to evaluation of care.
    • Evaluates and advances new nurses' competencies, reporting concerns, and assisting with learning plans.

    Education

    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
    • Master's Degree in Nursing, Education, or equivalent preferred
    • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
    • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

      • Experience

      • Minimum 7 years of clinical experience as a registered nurse, with expertise in practice
      • Previous experience in roles like clinical instructor, nurse educator, or charge nurse
      • Demonstrates leadership, clinical expertise, and commitment to patient-centered care
      • Skilled in communication, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution
      • Proficient with computer applications and dedicated to ongoing professional development
