Description:


KEY PURPOSE:

To locate voice and data issues (network, hardware, or user) based on client escalations. Repair and/or recommend issue fix.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:


Technical

  • Provide trouble analysis (i.e. testing, fault isolation and repair functions; logs, RF surveys, data network connection management)
  • Test, analyze, provision and repair network services and user devices
  • Work with appropriate areas for the implementation of software, firmware, product change upgrades, maintenance, and operational acceptance of user devices and network features
  • Provide provisioning and programming for user devices
  • Create and maintain RF coverage maps
  • Collect voice and data coverage information in selected wireless platforms (AMPS, CDMA, and iDEN)
  • Collect and analyze competitor benchmark data for network improvement and expansion recommendations
  • Ongoing current knowledge of
  • Internal Applications: test equipment methodologies and processes

Communications

  • Respond to queries, discuss trouble details and provide explanation/assistance relating to network trouble resolutions directly with external / internal customers
  • Explain / discuss details regarding progress, issues, applicable charges and promote products and services
  • Gather customer feedback through Dealer Channel and disseminate as required

Administration

  • Report and update findings in ARS (trouble ticket systems)
  • Report monthend logs, customer feedback, trouble ticket analysis
  • Prepare time and expense reports

Work Environment

  • Up to 80% of time is required out of office either traveling to Customer or Dealer locations or testing for various network and device activities. A shared space amongst the team is used when in the office

  • Troubles are resolved and/or services are provisioned within defined time requirements to meet company quality standards, to ensure network reliability and to meet customer needs
  • Administration responsibilities are completed accurately and timely

Qualifications:


You're the missing piece of the puzzle:

  • Accredited Diploma in one of the following areas: RF Telecommunications; Computer Engineering; Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Applied Science Technologists and Technicians certification would be an asset (e.g. ASTTBC, ASET)
  • Working knowledge of Wireless Communications, and Radio Frequency Networks
  • Working knowledge of test equipment/software associated with Wireless Network performance (e.g. Aglient Nitro & Aglient E6393A)
  • Working knowledge of TELUS wireless products and services
  • Knowledge of wireless devices
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to isolate and resolve troubles in Network and User Devices (e.g. data terminal, TCP/IP protocol, user data devices etc.)
  • Working knowledge of operating systems such as UDM, ARS, Knowbility, Map Info, Microsoft Streets and Trips
  • Working knowledge of one or more vendor CLIs and GUIs products (e.g. Nortel, Lucent, Motorola etc.)
  • Experience in testing /analysis of network elements and User Devices (hardware & software) would be an asset
  • Must have a Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Demonstrated effective decisionmaking skills while under limited supervision
  • Knowledge of network technology, architecture and elements, and a strong understanding of their associated interworkings
  • Knowledge of circuit wiring, transmission parameters and testing
  • Knowledge of automated provisioning, ticketing, testing and dispatch systems
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices / routines on network elements
  • Knowledge of installation and repair practices, policies, and procedures
  • Must be able to understand and effectively perform work in accordance with published work plans
  • Normal colour vision to work with colourcoded wiring
  • Must be able to operate hand and power tools and test equipment
  • Must be willing and able to work various shifts as assigned (such as evenings, weekends and statutory holidays), based on business needs
  • Must follow safe work practices and abide by all safety rules and regulations
  • Must possess Personal Computer navigational skills
  • Demonstrated professional oral and written communications skills
  • Fluent in English
