Summary:


The oncology nurse will be involved in all aspects of the inpatient oncology program, including patient/family assessment, patient teaching related to chemotherapy administration, supportive and palliative care.

As a member of the interdisciplinary team the oncology nurse will participate in the development and implementation of patient treatment plans; quality improvement processes and will support education and research initiatives.

Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.


Qualifications:


  • Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Oncology foundations, and psychosocial oncology courses from the deSouza Institute preferred _(Or agreement to complete within the first year of employment) _
  • Oncology nursing experience preferred
- _Experience in a hospital setting is seen as a major asset. _

  • Experience with administration and management of blood products, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, CVAD care and management
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Participation in education and clinical training programs
  • Good attendance record
  • Therapeutic communication techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills as well as the ability to work independently
  • Knowledge in patientfocused care and the needs of the oncology patient population
