Organizational Summary
The Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) is salmon first, salmon always. We harness the passion and power of people to save and restore Pacific salmon in B.C. and the Yukon. And, we never go it alone, working with Indigenous partners, streamkeepers, government agencies and fellow ENGO's, PSF undertakes research, restoration initiatives and leadership in convening all those willing to help recover Pacific salmon. As People for Salmon, we're here to help ensure sustainable populations of Pacific salmon for generations to come.
Position Overview
The Estuary and Nearshore Biologist will collaborate with other PSF staff and contractors in relation to the AERF funded "Greening the Salish Sea" program being carried out in collaboration with SeaChange Marine Conservation Society, Redd Fish Restoration, West Coast Aquatic, University of Victoria, and Guardians of Our Salish Estuaries.
This program involves development of a "Restoration Hub" of tools, maps, and manuals for nearshore habitat practitioners. The Biologist will be responsible for project delivery, some field studies, scientific writing, organization of project activities, and reporting. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer capable of producing high quality written reports, newsletters, and other outreach materials as needed.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Biologist's key responsibilities include:
· Collaborate with the Nearshore and Estuary program biologists on the AERF funded project "Greening the Salish Sea" project, reporting weekly to the Marine Science Program Director;
· Facilitate the organization and leadership of a Seagrass Symposium;
· Write a 'Seagrass State of Knowledge' document;
· Contribute to the development and drafting of the State of Knowledge report resulting from the Symposium, which involves conducting literature reviews, summarizing survey findings and research outcomes, designing surveys, conducting Zoom interviews, and collaborating with graphic designers/artists as necessary;
· Assist with development of other components of the AERF project including estuary report cards;
· Engage in fieldwork to verify the presence of seagrass for habitat suitability mapping in estuaries;
· Collaborate with the Strait of Georgia Data Centre, PSF comms and other PSF departments where required;
Qualifications
Reporting and Supervision
Supervised by the Director of the Marine Sciences Program, the Biologist is responsible for undertaking all work identified by them and meeting or exceeding the standard of care set by them.

The PSF is committed to life-long learning for all team members. Ongoing mentoring will be available to facilitate the Biologist's career development and appropriate training and skill-building opportunities will be provided. Educational opportunities will be encouraged.
Compensation
The compensation for this role is between $65,000 – $73,000 per year. PSF offers a generous benefits package including paid time off, a group RRSP plan with 4% matching contribution, extended health and dental care, life, and disability insurance.
