Position Description:

Altex Industries Inc. requires a Health and Safety Advisor for a field project located in Regina Saskatchewan.

This position will assist the Health & Safety Department in managing the administration of the Health and Safety Management System and is responsible for providing health and safety support to site personnel.

Due to the nature of field services, a degree of flexibility is required.


Major Areas of Responsibilities:


  • Act as a first point of contact for health and safety injuries, incidents, near misses and hazard reports and ensure all necessary notifications are made in a timely manner
  • Provide guidance to site personnel on safety related matters and escalate inquiries where appropriate
  • Maintain knowledge of, and monitor compliance with, Occupational, Health & Safety legislation and other applicable provincial and federal legislation and standards
  • Promote the principles of safe work and encourage participation in corporate safety initiatives
  • Monitor overall safety management system performance and make recommendations for improvement
  • Conduct/facilitate safety orientations
  • Regularly inspect premises for hazards, implementation of hazard controls and correct use of hazard controls at job site
  • Complete worksite inspections, job observations, document audits, and other types of reviews for the purpose of monitoring compliance to safety regulations and identification of risk.
  • Assist in the maintenance of business continuity and emergency management plans and procedures when required

Primary Objectives:


  • Incident/Near Miss/Potential for Serious Incident Investigations
  • Ensure all applicable notifications are made in a timely manner
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of incidents including rootcause analysis, providing causes of incidents and corrective action recommendations
  • Support site supervision in the implementation of corrective actions and other preventative measures
  • Assist in the identification and analysis of trends; communicate observations and provide suggestions for incident reduction measures
  • Audit Compliance and Document Maintenance
  • Maintain health and safety documentation including, but not limited to, regulatory and process compliance within applicable information storage systems
  • Assist in the audit of compliance records and other health and safety data; participate in audits as required
  • Prepare and distribute various health and safety reports, such as incident investigation reports, hazard reports, site specific toolbox talks, etc.
  • Coaching and Mentoring
  • Interact with coworkers and other site personnel; build and maintain positive working relationships
  • Provide safety leadership, coaching and mentoring to coworkers, when required
  • Professionally interact with clients in a proactive manner and when necessary, using a reactive approach as it relates to health and safety matters
  • Conduct/participate in safety meetings, toolbox meetings, joint health & safety committee meetings, when required
  • Promote and enforce safe driving
  • Hazard Identification, Assessment & Control
  • Assist site personnel in the creation of site and task specific job hazard assessments
  • Assess and evaluate the work environment to identify potential hazards and ensure that corrective controls are in place to prevent or remove hazards
  • Review FLRAs and conduct regular inspections of worksite
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Skills and Abilities:


  • Possess and demonstrate a high standard of professional ethics and integrity
  • Experience handling confidential information and solid understanding of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act


  • Solid computer skills

  • Windows 10 or higher, Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Office 365, SharePoint
  • The ability to oversee and collaborate with team members in a fastpaced environment
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to multitask with a strong attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills; strong verbal, written communication and listening abilities
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational, time management and planning abilities
  • Become familiar with and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures

Education/Certification and Experience:


  • OHS Certificate or NCSO Certification (minimum requirements)
  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS09 or CSTS2020)
