Your opportunity:

Since 2014 the Old Books New Science (OBNS)

Lab has been a training hub for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and an incubation space for research projects including the Mellon-funded Digital Tools for Manuscript Study, The Book and the Silk Roads, and most recently Hidden Stories:
New Approaches to the Local and Global History of the Book.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Booking rooms and arranging appropriate accommodations
  • Collating and organizing materials
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Proofreading and factchecking content
  • Determining logístical details and activities for events and/or programming

Essential Qualifications:


  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in business administration or other relevant field or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of administrative experience working in a university research environment is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work collaboratively effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively when there are multiple demands while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

This position is a term assignment at a 70% FTE (approximately 25 hours + 20 minutes per week) to December 2023.
