Position Summary


The Casual Transportation Associate is an operations and logistics position within the Food Security Ministry, responsible for the collection and transportation of product for distribution through The Mustard Seed Street Church.

The individual must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, as they will be interacting with donors and a diverse community of volunteers to ensure the efficient collection, transportation and delivery of product.

The position of Transportation Associate must possess and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure effective operations with our staff and volunteers, specifically the Shipper/Receiver, Warehouse Coordinator, Food Distribution Coordinator and Guest Services Coordinator.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be a Christian ambassador for The Mustard Seed Street Church in the community
  • Safe and courteous operation of The Mustard Seed's vehicles
  • Health and Safety work practices and cleanliness of vehicles and equipment
  • Responsible for the wellbeing and safety of all staff, volunteers, clients and donors during pickups and deliveries
  • Collaborate with Shipping/Receiving and colleagues to ensure efficient collection and distribution of product through established methods
  • Help to maintain all equipment used in Transportation, including vehicles, carts, dollies, bins, forklifts, pallet jacks or relevant equipment
  • Provide Christian leadership and support to transportation and warehouse volunteers, recognizing the role and value volunteers bring to The Mustard Seed
  • Train, support, supervise and evaluate volunteers with a range of diverse personalities and skills
  • Effective communication with Food Security Team, donors, vendors, partner agencies, staff, volunteers and general public
  • Effective communication with Food Distribution Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator regarding volunteer performance in transportation and hamper prep
  • Attending and participating in all relevant Mustard Seed Street Church meetings and training opportunities available
  • Completion of both truck inspection/trip sheets and Route Checklist daily
  • Event support for Development team as well as support for BC Sharing Program in collaboration with Shipper/Receiver and Donor Relations Coordinator
  • Participate in employee and program evaluation process
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:



  • Required

  • BC Driver's license and acceptable abstract


  • Required

  • Experience driving 5, 3 & 1 ton trucks; experience driving a Sprinter Van; experience in vehicle inspection and completing inspection sheets


  • Required

  • Current forklift certification with experience completing inspection sheets or a willingness to obtain
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, warehousing and shipping/receiving software
  • Class 1 an asset
  • Warehouse experience an asset
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C are asset
  • WHIMIS an asset
  • Current Food Safe Certificate or a willingness to obtain
  • Food Handling Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain

Terms of Employment

  • This position is with The Mustard Seed Street Church and requires a person who has made a Christian commitment
  • Must be willing to sign the staff code of conduct
  • This position reports to: The Warehouse Coordinator
  • Term: Casual
  • Must read and agree to following The Mustard Seed policies which are a living, changing document
  • The Mustard Seed Street Church follows BC Employment Standards
  • Must provide an acceptable criminal record check, including the level of clearance required to work with vulnerable people
  • Must provide completed Medical Assessment form from your Medical Practitioner
